...If you don’t know interior designer Sarah Sherman Samuel – well you really should. She’s already had two projects grace the covers of major design magazines, her own homes are always amazing (she’s currently renovating a gorgeous fixer-upper in Michigan) and well, basically everything she touches turns to design gold (she actually designed a custom piece for our holiday shop more than five years ago!). Hence why it’s no surprise her new rug and pillow collection for Lulu & Georgia launched just yesterday and is already nearly sold out!
It makes total sense. These pieces are so so good. Inspired by Sarah’s love of vintage Morrocan and kilim rugs that she’s constantly sourcing for clients, she decided to create a cohesive collection of go-to styles that work in nearly any space – all at crazy affordable price points. Both her rugs and pillows feature fun tactile designs making them as satisfying to touch as they are to look at. The collection’s earthy neutral color palette and a minimalist modern take on the ubiquitous beni ourain rugs feel fresh but also timeless. You really can’t go wrong with any option you choose.
One of the things I appreciate Saraha’s designs is her knack for combing styles. Her look isn’t strickly California casual or mid-century or bohemian. She strikes a balance by combining eras, styles and finishes that create elevated casual rooms that could work in nearly any kind of home. The living room above is a perfect example. While the rattan ottomans feel bohemian, the curved sofas add an air of sophistication. The Serge Mouille inspired swing arm lamp is a classic, while the ceramics add a structural, mid-century vibe. The addition of Sarah’s (sold out!) Iconic Stripe Rug and pillows soften the space a bit more.
I love the mix of hard lines of the brutalist bedside table juxtaposed with the soft curves in this bedroom. The Arches rug looks great small, but also in this oversized scale.
Look out – rust orange is making a comeback! But in all seriousness, a bold color is a great way to anchor an otherwise neutral, monochromatic room.
I’ll take this entire bathroom, please and thank you.

...Hello world! Introducing Oscar Ezra Silver, born on the 18th July 2019, three weeks earlier than expected because he just couldn’t wait to see the world!
Despite a slightly earlier than expected entrance to the world, he was a healthy 6 pounds and 6 ounces and required no time in intensive care. Meaning he was ready to receive all the love and cuddles that were waiting for him from Mr S and I. We couldn’t be more over the moon and totally in love with our beautiful baby boy!
Having him filled the gap that I didn’t know needed filling; he is my heart, my soul and everything in between… I love him to the moon and back. Mr S and I just keep looking at each other and saying, I can’t believe he’s ours, I can’t believe we made him. Just looking at him makes my eyes fill with tears of love.
I took a while to announce his birth on social media as we just took some time to enjoy him for ourselves and for me to recover from the birth. It also took us ages to agree on a name! It’s surprising how few names we liked, let alone could agree on… plus Oscar has ten cousins so lots of names we liked were already taken.
Oscar, you make me look forward to every day with new and fresh eyes… I can’t wait to see the world from your point of view and feel excited about everything again for the first time.
I’m planning on writing all about the medical complications that hit us in week 34 plus the story of his birth and what it’s like to have a baby at the famous Lindo Wing. But for now…

When you here the word Birkenstock, would you ever connect it to Parisian chic? I certainly wouldn’t. But the ugly shoe trend has taken the hippie staple and made it fashion and now Birkenstock has also made it design! The brand has just opened a new showroom on the Rue Saint Honoré in the heart of Paris and it is stunning. Don’t think you can combine Birkenstocks and high design? Scroll. You’ll be as amazed as I am.
Created to display Birkenstock 1774, the company’s collection of limited edition designer collaborations and special projects, the showroom is a perfect example of an idyllic Parisian apartment complete with parquet floors, paneled walls, stunning fireplaces and cascades of natural light.
The creative consultancy Vinson & Co juxtaposed the apartment’s classic architecture with modern furnishings in that elevated European way that I just cannot get enough of. Pieces in each jaw-droppingly pretty room come from mid-century icons like Cassina and Pierre Jeanneret and modern day show stoppers from Faye TooGood and Vitra.
The designer Birks just seem to casually rest among the perfectly composed rooms. They are cohesively filled with warm tones, worn leather, ceramics from well-known ceramicists including Simon Hasan and unique woven art created by embroiderer Geraldine Larkin using jute and felt – materials used in the making of Birks!
I would gladly call this showroom home, whether it came with the shoes or not. For now ,I’m plotting a trip to Paris to see this space and maybe pick up a pair of the Rick Owns Birkenstock collaboration. They have enough edge that they block the memories of Birks worn with socks out of my mind.
If anyone is still headed to Paris before summer’s end, please go visit Birkesnstock 1774 and report back if it is in fact as fabulous as this looks!
