Revolutionary ‘Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63’ to Launch in 2021

Automobili Lamborghini and The Italian Sea Group will launch the first 60-knot Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 next year, having recently revealed details of the supercar-inspired motor yacht.

With a design influenced by the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, the sleek 19.2m yacht is being built by The Italian Sea Group, which owns the Tecnomar and Admiral luxury yacht brands and NCA Refit.

With twin MAN V12 2,000hp engines, the 63-footer will be Tecnomar’s fastest model, with a top speed of 60 knots. The use of carbon-fibre material – typical of Lamborghini super sports cars – enables the ultra-lightweight yacht to weight just 24 tonnes.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said: “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 will become as futuristic an icon as the car she is inspired by. Selected owners around the world will own not only the fastest Tecnomar motor yacht in the fleet but a Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 masterpiece.

“I’m proud we have chosen to create this innovative and challenging project with Automobili Lamborghini, which links technology, supreme design, quality and performance.”

Designed in collaboration with Lamborghini’s Centro Stile (‘Style Centre’), the yacht was inspired by the Sián FKP 37, the hybrid super sports car incorporating a supercapacitor and groundbreaking technology, and offering customised colours and details.

The yacht’s super sporty exterior is characterised by a sporty silhouette, with an aerodynamic hardtop is inspired by Lamborghini roadsters. The hull and superstructure are created from a high-performance shell developed by naval engineers specialising in hydrodynamic sciences.

The bow lights are an homage to the Lamborghini concept car Terzo Millennio and the Sián FKP 37, both distinctive for their Y-shaped front lights.

Lamborghini’s iconic clean lines, hexagon shapes, Y-motif and materials are incorporated into the design, together with the fully customisable colours and materials in the manner of the company’s Ad Personam programme.

The yacht’s instrument panel interprets the car cockpit in a nautical style. As in Lamborghini super sports cars, details are finished in carbon-fibre, with Lamborghini’s Carbon Skin used in the sports seats and on the helm, styled as the super sports car’s steering wheel. The two start/stop buttons, one for each engine, are the same used to start a Lamborghini engine.

Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said: “Our co-operation on this yacht allows the essence of both organisations’ style and expertise to be transferred to different worlds, sharing in their diversity to interpret and add value to the final product in a new environment. If I had to imagine a Lamborghini on water, this would be my vision.”

Remy Renzullo X Carolina Irving & Daughters Tabletop Collection

Interior designer Remy Renzullo loves to entertain and collects antique china to set his table. He is such an avid collector that he reached out to me on Instagram last summer when I posted photos from the Nantucket Antiques Show to find out which vendor was selling plates in one of his china patterns. The only problem with collecting vintage china is that you can’t always find full sets or replacement pieces without some work. To remedy that situation, Remy has collaborated with Venezuelan textile designer Carolina Irving and her daughters on a new tableware collection hand-made in Portugal and exclusively available on Moda Operandi.

“Initially, the first part of the collection began to evolve from a 19th-century Mallorcan charger Remy has that had belonged to his aunt,” says Carolina Irving. “We love that the starting point was a beautiful inherited piece. Like all of our ceramics, it feels very personal.” They faithfully reproduced it as the Mabel large serving platter, and from there launched into a deeper exploration of 18th- and 19th-century Spanish ceramics like Talavera and Manises. Trips to Spain to visit museums and auction houses yielded endless inspiration. As they began to develop samples, they decided to branch out further and create a few that felt more refined, something that, as Renzullo notes, “could transition from a country lunch to a New York or London dinner party.” For this, they studied 18th-century French faience like Chantilly and Strasbourg. “They are refined but not stuffy, the goal of our collection,” says Renzullo. Adds Olympia, “Ultimately we want these pieces to be used and loved—they are really designed for any occasion, whether dinner for 18 or breakfast in bed on the weekend.”

These tables were photographed at Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo’s Southampton home and garden, Remy’s New York apartment, and Carolina Irving’s garden in Portugal and show just how many different ways you can style the collection. The only drawback is that you have to pre-order the collection but that just means you have something to look forward to in August.

Air Dior is the fastest selling luxury collaboration of 2020. Is Luxury recovering?

Last December, Dior’s Kim Jones broke the internet with a pair of high fashion sneakers designed in collaboration with Air Jordan. On Monday, after weeks of Covid-related delays, 2020’s most hyped Air Dior collection which comprised of $2200 dollar Dior Air Jordans (among other hype worthy street apparel), sold out in a manner of minutes.

8,500 pairs of the highly-anticipated limited edition Dior x Air Jordan 1 High sneakers were quickly sold out after the Air Dior collection was released online. The sought after high-top kicks and $2000 Dior x Air Jordan 1 Low (limited to 4,700 pairs) were sold via Air Dior Lottery microsites created especially for the limited-edition sneakers with lucky winners will be announced on July 1st. Is it a sign that the luxury industry has bottomed out and it’s on the way to recovery?

Air Dior is the fastest selling luxury collaboration of 2020. Is this a sign that the Luxury Industry is recovering?

The Covid-19 pandemic has literally savaged the global economy and crated retail spending but rapid sale of the Air Dior collection looks like depressing economic conditions have done little to dampen consumer demand for luxury goods. In support of this idea that luxury retail has indeed turned a corner, brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton were hiking prices as early as March 2020 in order to recover lost ground from lower sales amidst retail lockdowns.

Louis Vuitton raised prices 3% initially and then another 5% in April. May saw Chanel raising prices between 5% to 17% on its classics like its Gabrielle and Chanel 19 bags. It was a phenomenon that created queues outside brand boutiques across major metropolitan East Asian cities in China and South Korea, prompting local officials in Seoul to assess whether orders to shut those stores were required to stem a potential second wave of covid-19 infections.

“In the current environment, the price of certain raw materials, which were already difficult to procure due to the quality we require, has increased again.” – Chanel spokesperson

Indeed, the raising of luxury goods prices has been par course for decades. Typically outpacing inflation, hard luxury goods like Rolex watches enjoy 8% price hikes each year; for soft luxury goods like apparel and fine leather goods, two price hikes per year are not uncommon – typically a reflection of demand or the increased costs of artisan labour. According to Chanel, raw materials and the disrupted luxury supply chain resulting from global lockdowns have increased product shortages; in essence, what Chanel is saying is that the mismatch of high demand in the midst of low supply necessitates raising prices. That said, Gucci and Prada are not raising prices for the moment. Is this really sign of lopsided luxury demand and supply economics during the greatest recession since the Great Depression or is this evidence that as Wall Street decoupled from Main Street, growing inequality has affected the biggest bulk of luxury consumers – the middle class.

A Different Story for Mid-tier Luxury brands

Mid-size luxury is experiencing a different retail scenario than the ones faced by Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Italy, which accounts for around 40% of global luxury goods manufacturing, has has been hit hard by a dramatic drop in demand with several artisans saying they have no new orders since the lockdowns started in China.

Suppliers speaking to Reuters said that Hugo Boss and Max Mara had sought price reductions on existing orders of up to 8%, and in some instances, even asked for 120 day payment terms instead of the usual 10 days, highlighting a severe cash crunch as mid-size luxury brands attempt to make up for lost profits. While Reuters did not mention Chanel or Louis Vuitton, it reported that “half a dozen Italian artisans supplying top luxury brands had seen a cut in orders of between 20% and 50% in May and June compared with last year”.

Indeed, as the coronavirus emerged in China, a key market which provided 90% of global luxury growth in 2019, a lockdown in that territory crashed consumer demand. This led luxury brands to shut down manufacturing sites both in response to the growing pandemic in their native countries but also as a result of the unsold stock which remained trapped at distribution points across the world as other countries embraced quarantines in the hopes of stemming the growing wave of infections.

The immediate cessation of ‘non-essential’ international trade and economic activity ground the markets to a standstill precipitating an immediate worldwide recession. As a result, Bain & Co projected that demand for high-end clothes and accessories would fall by up to 35% for 2020 with severely diminished disposable income and the expected return to $314 billion  pre-crisis levels as late as 2023.

With consumer demand remaining extremely low in traditional luxury strongholds like Europe and the United States, many luxury brands are looking to East Asia, especially China. However, the Chinese capital began experiencing its second wave, with authorities sending Beijing into a lockdown after more than 100 new locally transmitted coronavirus cases were detected in the past five days, casting a pallor over hopes of a real recovery for the luxury industry. It appears we aren’t quite out of the woods yet.

Nigerian ‘Billionaire Instagram Influencer’ Arrested in Dubai For a $432M Cyberscam

If there’s one thing teachers in school, mental health experts, and successful people alike, seem to have in common, it’s the saying that “you can’t trust all you see online”. Often describing our overly saturated Instagram feeds as more of a ‘highlight reel’ than an authentic depiction of real life – this week’s latest revelation further amplifies this point.

Nigerian ‘Billionaire Instagram Influencer’ Arrested in Dubai For a $432M Cyberscam

Arrested in Dubai on claims of a $432 million cyberscam, social media quickly turned upside down after images of FBI storming the apartment of 38-year-old Raymond Abbas (Hushpuppi) surfaced. With at least 2.4 million followers on Instagram, the Nigerian influencer who was once revered for his enviably lavish lifestyle, is now the face of innumerable fraud charges.

Confiscating over $37 million in cash and a multitude of luxury cars, investigators say the Instagram star, alongside 12 accomplices, portrayed a billionaire lifestyle in order to ‘lure victims from all over the world’.

Charged for “obtaining money from others through fraudulent means”, the 13 suspects in question seemed to have utilized multiple phones and computers to create fake websites for well-known companies and banks in a bid to steal each victim’s credit card information and then launder the stolen money. Amassing at least 2 million victims across Europe, America and Nigeria, all evidence of their crimes, currently remain in police custody.

The New Lange 1 Time Zone displays the Saxony manufacture’s nigh magical prowess in its Prestige

The new edition of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE in yellow gold is equipped with a champagne-colored dial and a medium brown leather strap and limited to 100 pieces. It measures 41.9 mm in diameter and is 10.9 mm high.

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called “The Pledge”. The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. The second act is called “The Turn”. The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. But making something disappear isn’t enough; you have to bring it back. That’s why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call “The Prestige” – Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film, The Prestige

Originally released as part of Lange’s first collection in 1994, the Lange 1 was the Saxony Manufacture’s “pledge”. They took an ordinary watch and through an asymmetry guided by the principle of golden ratios, went on to spawn nine variants including everything from a Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar to the popular Grand Lange 1. Then, it followed up with an act of extraordinary mastery in 2005 called the Time Zone, it was the maison’s second act. Today, the Lange 1 Time Zone receives its first technical update since it was first launched 15 years ago. The new  2020 edition of the Lange 1 Time Zone retains the 41.9mm proportions of the original Lange 1 Time Zone but adds the practical functionality of daylight savings time indicator, simple but immensely useful tool for anyone who travels often to countries which still use the archaic practice.

Despite the inclusion of an additional daylight savings reminder, the face of the new Lange 1 Time Zone looks pretty much unchanged without a side-by-side comparison but put the two together and the most noticeable change is the inclusion of two independently operating ‘sub-dials’ each hidden within two of the main dials. These disks indicate day and night, rotating once every 24 hours, an hour hand over the blue arc indicates PM for that time zone; these are the surest signs that beneath the argenté and black dials, lies an entirely different calibre driving these sophisticated timepieces.

The new edition of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE, presented in June 2020 and equipped with a new manufacture calibre L141.1, combines functionality with clear readability. The time and date at home and another of the 24 zone times can be read at one glance. Ring-shaped day/night indicators assure good legibility and the new daylight saving time indication is a useful addition.
The LANGE 1 TIME ZONE is available in pink gold with an argenté-colored dial, in white gold with a black dial and in yellow gold – limited to 100 pieces – with a champagne-colored dial. It measures 41.9 mm in diameter and is 10.9 mm high.

The New Lange 1 Time Zone displays the Saxony manufacture’s nigh magical prowess in its Prestige

With nine assorted hands and pointers, and five dials, a dual timezone watch like the original Lange 1 Time Zone was never an easy watch to pull off design-wise. Though executed with much aplomb in 2005, the new Lange 1 Time Zone for 2020 creates a visually cleaner watch, and even if the raison d’etre of watchmaking today is one of fine arts, an easier to use dual timezone watch is always welcome.

Thoughtful decisions allow the Saxony manufacture to give the new Lange 1 Time Zone an additional daylight savings time reminder unobtrusively, while I’m not certain this means lovers of the current edition will give up their predecessor models for the 2020 edition, the new Lange 1 Time Zone is certainly a monumental update from a technical and visual perspective. Seriously, how do you add one extra indicator to the myriad of hands and dials yet make it more discreet? It’s a contradiction of terms and this is The Prestige.

While the older model expresses day and night in separate subdials, the new Lange 1 Time Zone offers a visually sophistication solution by “hiding” subdials via discs rotating around the central axis of hands. Furthermore, a recent Zoom presentation hosted by Lange’s Director Of Product Development Anthony de Haas explained the city pointer which referenced the city on the city ring on the previous iteration, now also hides a small window within the pointer to denote whether the respective city uses Daylight Savings Time or DST. Cities that do not use DST are indicated in white while red fills the window for cities that do.

Though not as discreet as its dial layout, the new Lange 1 Time Zone allows adjustment of the city ring in one-hour increments via a pusher at 8 o’clock; functionally, this feature is similar to other timezone complications on the market, moving each of the 24 reference cities for each time zone around the dial in one hour increments. A button at 10 o’clock adjusts big date.

Beneath the surface of the 2020 Lange 1 Time Zone

The nine of the current first generation Lange 1 variants including the Time Zone were derived from the L901.0, the base movement which powered the original Lange 1 in 1994. It was updated once in 2015 with the L121.1 and since then, Lange has progressively updated across the original Lange 1 collection, the new Lange 1 Time Zone is the last watch in the family to receive a new calibre L141.1 , one which accounts for daylight savings at that.

The new manufacture calibre L141.1 retains the unique synchronisation mechanism that makes it possible to transfer zone time from the smaller to the larger dial. This is useful when – during an extended stay abroad, for instance – the user wishes to swap zone time and main time. If the crown is pulled out to the second position, the times of both zones can be adjusted synchronously. But in the process, if the button for setting the second time zone is pressed and held, the hour hand for zone time will stay in its position. Now, the defined new main time can be set independently of zone time. Finally, it may be necessary to correct the outsize date which is connected with main time. This is done with the pusher at 10 o’clock.

Ultimately, the new Lange 1 Time Zone is a distillation of the collective experience accrued with the development of 65 calibres since their revival.
