October is unofficial food month in London. From top to bottom, the calendar is packed with weeks dedicated to everything from chocolate to cocktails, curry to champagne. To help you make sense of all the activity, today I bring you A Lady in London’s sneak peek at 9 October food festivals in London. Get ready to indulge…
October Food Festivals in London
While some of these foodie events are proper festivals, others are informal weeks dedicated to a specific food or drink. Whether you choose to participate in an organized event or celebrate at home, there’s no shortage of inspiration.
London Restaurant Festival
Kicking off the month is the annual London Restaurant Festival. It runs all throughout October in 350 restaurants across the UK capital. From chef-hosted events to special menus, it’s a good opportunity to try new places, food pairings, and cuisines.
National Champagne Week
If it’s drinks you prefer, one of my favorite October food festivals in London is National Champagne Week. Running from October 1st to 7th, it features masterclasses, tutored tastings, supper clubs, parties, and pop-ups all across the city (and in Bath and Birmingham, too!).
London Cocktail Week
I’ve participated in London Cocktail Week a number of times, and I love all the new places and drinks I’ve discovered through it. From October 3rd to 9th this year, Cocktail Week will feature events, discounted tipples, and special offers in over 200 London bars. There will also be a dedicated cocktail village in Spitalfields Market for extra indulgence.
National Cake Week
National Cake Week rounds out the first week of October. From October 3rd through 9th, aspiring bakers are encouraged to fill their kitchens with friends, family, and frosting. Whether it’s your favorite recipe or a long-forgotten one, this casual week is all about sharing the joy of creating a humble homemade cake. And who wouldn’t want that?
Seafood Week
Back to savory food, one of the best October food festivals in London is Seafood Week. Kicking off the second week of the month, this festival runs from October 7th to 14th. It highlights a variety of British fish and shellfish, and features events in London and throughout the country. Each day focuses on a specific fish—Day 2 is mussels, Day 7 tuna—so there’s always something new to discover.
Chocolate Week
My favorite part of October is Chocolate Week. From October 10th to 16th, London is rich with the scent of cocoa as talks, tastings, demonstrations, and samples fill the city. Everything from exclusive products to new launches will tantalize tastebuds as the week goes by.
National Curry Week
Taking place over the same dates as Chocolate Week, National Curry Week is another British staple. This celebration is particularly important given that curry has been called the national dish of Britain. Throughout the week, curry lovers can eat at their favorite curry houses and participate in special events and challenges, all with the admirable aim of helping raise money for charity.
Hoxtoberfest
If you missed Oktoberfest in Munich, don’t fret. London’s Hoxtoberfest runs from October 20th to 22nd and promises to bring all the fun and festivities of Germany’s iconic beer festival to Hoxton Docks. So grab your lederhosen and throw on your dirndl, because this giant tent is going to host an über party.
British Sausage Week
Rounding out the month is British Sausage Week, which starts on October 31st. From then until November 6th, it’s all about the bangers (that’s British for sausages). Events, recipes, and awards are all part of the fun, but the main event is the 750-strong competition for the prestigious title of Britain’s Best Banger. (If meat isn’t your thing, World Vegan Day is on November 1st.)
London’s October Food Festivals
I hope you’ve found some culinary inspiration for the month. With so many different festivals and weeks to celebrate, there’s something for everyone. I only wish they could last beyond Halloween!
