Bon Weekend: 6 January 2017

Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean there aren’t still fun things to do and see. The cold weather is a good time to head out for some art and culture or stay home and watch a new program. Here are a few suggestions to get you excited about January.

I stopped by The Frick Collection before the New Year to see their first exhibition of Pierre Gouthière, “the great French bronze chaser and gilder who worked for Louis XV and Louis XVI”. It’s a small but powerful presentation of 21 pieces of his work produced in the 18th-century that are still sought after to this day. I especially loved the pieces that were mounted onto porphyry, alabaster, and marble. Give yourself extra time to walk the entire museum and enjoy the garden court. The Pierre Gouthière exhibition runs through February 19, 2017.

I have been loving the new Met Breuer since it opened. It’s located a few blocks away from my apartment so I often stop by for a quick visit with my Met Museum membership card. Make sure you stop by the Kerry James Marshall exhibition before it closes on January 29, 2017.

One place I haven’t been yet is the new Flora Bar at the Met Breuer. Stop by for a coffee after viewing the art or make a reservation for dinner. In the warmer weather, you’ll be able to sit outside too.

After the museum, walk down a few blocks to Ladurée and pick up a Galette de Rois for the Ephiphany.

Winter is the most important time to take care of your skin to protect and repair it for the cold. Today, I’m headed to the newly renovated La Prairie Counter at Bergdorf Goodman to experience one of their signature facials in their new facial room. I will report back about my experience later.

I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t see enough plays in New York. Maybe I’ll change that up and get some tickets to The Present starring Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh and directed by Cate’s husband, Andrew Upton. The Present is “a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s first play (PLATONOV), which unfolds over the course of a birthday celebration in the post-Perestroika Russian countryside. Old flames ignite in this passionate and bitingly comic play.”

I’m already planning my workouts this weekend so I can feel less guilty about sitting around all afternoon and evening Sunday for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards. I can’t wait to see what everyone is wearing and what host Jimmy Fallon has in store for the audience.

If staying home and shopping online is more your style, Barney’s New York is offering an extra 20% off sale prices on women’s and men’s coats, shoes, and bags.

One thing I’m very excited about this year is the partnership between Diptyque and Antoinette Poisson who has designed the limited edition label and packaging for Rosa Mundi. It’s like a breath of spring for the middle of winter.

I saw the trailer for The Young Pope before Nocturnal Animals and thought it looked like an intriguing new movie. What’s even better is that it’s actually a new limited series set for HBO starring Jude Law as controversial Pope Pius XIII by filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino. It also stars Diane Keaton and has amazing sets so mark your calendars and set your DVR for Sunday, January 15th at 9:00pm.

Bon Week-end !

XOXO,

HC
