As much as I love trying new restaurants and local flavours, there’s always a draw to trying the international branches of my favourite restaurant brands. Mr S and I always make an exception when it comes to Nobu, but I was also keen to try another London favourite when we visited Dubai. Zuma has been one London’s trendiest restaurants since 2002 but now founders Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney have opened branches of their izakaya-style Japanese restaurants all over the world.
As one of the hottest restaurant in Dubai, and located conveniently minutes away from Four Seasons Hotel Dubai International Financial Centre, we couldn’t resist giving Zuma Dubai a try.
Starting in the bar with some zesty cocktails we admired the restaurant space, which though vast, was broken up into different areas and levels with low lighting so it still felt romantic and intimate. Based on the six elements of fire, earth, water, air, wood and iron, the restaurant is a eclectic mix of materials, chic and luxurious but with an organic casual feel too.
Having eaten at Zuma London quite a few times, we’re well aquainted with the classic dishes and didn’t need too many suggestions from the server of what to order.
Yellowtail with chili relish, ponzu and pickled garlic is always one of our must orders.
We also chose two sashimi salads with the most delicious piquant dressing, perfectly balanced with slight citrus and sweetness. Everything is served pretty informally, it just comes out when it’s ready and all made for sharing.
We also ordered our absolute favourite sushi rolls, spicy tuna! Every bit as good as how they make them in London.
Zuma is also know for serving incredible food cooked on their robata grill and we ordered some deliciously tender chicken skewers and sampled jumbo tiger prawns with yuzu pepper as recommended by our waitress.
As an added extra we were given absolute melt in the mouth wagyu beef sushi, compliments from the chef. I’ve never tried these at Zuma before but they were one of the best things we had!
Split between ordered black cod and Chilean sea bass, we ended up going for the latter whose silky flesh fell apart under our forks and was perfectly accompanied by a cress salad with chilli ginger dressing.
The signature Zuma molten chocolate pudding had the most perfect inner ooze and paired beautifully with white chocolate ice cream.
I knew one of my favourite London restaurant brands wouldn’t let me down. The food at Zuma was outstanding and the vibrant atmosphere and convenient location makes it a real must visit!
