Modern Bohemian Loft in Brooklyn

Bits and pieces of this gorgeous space have been drifting around Pinterest of late (if you haven’t given me a follow, pls do!), but when I clicked over to see the full project on the design firm, Space Exploration’s website, I about fell out of my chair. The Brooklyn loft resides in what was once a school building in Williamsburg. It features 20(!) foot ceilings, crazing amazing natural light and a mix of industrial and period details. But I’m really loving the California-casual, modern boho vibe injected into the historic architecture.

Low slung furniture, lots of vintage & design classics (hello Noguchi), rattan, and a little bit of minimalist restraint makes it seem like this could be a home a East LA. The tropical plants and staples of LA designers like Block Shop prints are certainly an interesting juxtaposition in the old-world shell. The design is even more interesting given that this space was actually a winner of the Remodelista Best Professionally Designed Kitchen in 2014 – and it looked completely different then! Now it’s a bright white shell against which all the perfectly chosen pieces of furniture, light fixtures and accessories can pop. It really feels like the perfect mix of old and new – West Coast and East. Enjoy!
