Let’s Choose a Contented Life, Rather than to Pursue Happiness in 2020

“But the truth is that the longer I have lived, and the shorter my future, the less pursuing [of happiness] I have done. The point is, in my case, happiness seemed a thing that could not be pursued, only realized and chosen.” —Niall Williams, from her article “Is Anyone Happy Anymore?“, December 21, 2019 To […]

Happy New Year!

I usually create my New Year’s Eve posts with new images each year but I’ve been very busy this so this one is a culmination of photos from the last few years. Seems fitting to look back as we end one decade and begin a new one. Happy New Year!

Ring out wild bells to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Time travel, slow travel and other African adventures

In the 21st century, life for many has taken on a pace that sometimes feels too busy and far too fast.  We are increasingly exposed to vast amounts of information, and although beneficial, this can lead to a sense of overwhelm.  Current trends towards ‘digital detox’ and ‘slow living’ are indicators of a growing need […]

3 Must Go Places You Should Try When Visiting Cancun

Sitting on a beautiful 21-kilometer long, 400-meter wide island off the northern coast of Yucatan is the stunning Cancun. It is a luxury resort built with gorgeous tourist infrastructure. Cancun is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Mexico, charming the hearts of more than four million tourists every year. What would you love about Cancun? You’ll have tons of fun things to enjoy, white-sand beaches that will surely take your breath away, large coral reefs to see, and beautiful weather that will make you want to stay forever. If you’re planning to visit Cancun soon, you should not waste the opportunity to see all that it has to offer.

Here are three places you definitely have to try when you visit Cancun:

Chichen Itza

You wouldn’t want to miss the chance to see this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day trips to Chichen Itza are one of the most popular tours since it is one of Mexico’s largest and best-restored archaeological sites. It was settled by the Mayans more than 1000 years ago, and it includes various Chac-Mool statues and important buildings like the pyramid El Castillo. You can even join a tour accompanied by a private archaeologist. You’ll have to wake up as early as 5 am, but you’ll have a chance to explore the place before it opens to other tourists. You’ll want to stay in a hotel that is near major pick up points for tours and such. You might have a hard time searching for the best area to stay in Cancun since almost all of them are good choices. Choose one that has the amenities you prefer, and can cater to all your travel needs.

Cancun Underwater Museum

One of the places you must try in Cancun is its underwater museum. It was set up in 2009 when the Cancun National Marine Park was damaged by a storm. This attraction’s main goal is the art of conservation. The sculptures are the focus of this art collection, and they are a delight to explore. There are more than 500 must-see sculptures that are spread across two lovely underwater galleries. They have been put together by six artists from Mexico and Britain. If you’re not into diving, you can still access the Cancun Underwater Museum through glass-bottom boats.

Isla Mujeres

When you say “Cancun”, one of the things that first come to mind is the exquisite Isla Mujeres (Island of Women). It’s a magnificent island located about 13 kilometers from the mainland. It’s widely popular with surfers for the large waves on its east coast. Meanwhile, divers are enraptured by the abundant marine life around the coral reefs of Garrafon Natural Reef Park. Beach goers who prefer a less hectic pace love Isla Mujeres too due to the limited traffic.

Cancun is nothing short of a paradise here on Earth. If you’re planning your next vacation, you should definitely keep Cancun in mind. Don’t forget these three wonderful destinations, so you can get the most out of your visit.
