The Festive Afternoon Tea at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel

I was invited to review Hansom Bar and our food and drink was complimentary. I was not paid to visit and was not under contractual obligation to write this blog post or create content on any platform.

2019 has been the best year of my life but in many ways a roller coaster journey. I’m so lucky to have such wonderful friends in the blogging community who gave me so much support during my pregnancy and the first five months with Oscar. So as a final end of year treat my blogger girl gang got together for one final glass of champagne and to enjoy a festive afternoon tea. And where better than the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, a location famous for featuring in the Spice Girls video for Wannabe? Emma, Binny, Sima and our own Baby Spice, Oscar, even got a picture on the staircase that took a central role in that iconic video!

Spice Girls connection aside the St Pancras Renaissance has been open since 1873 (originally called Midland Grand) and stands proudly next St Pancras International, making the hotel the ideal staycation before catching the Eurostar to Paris. The hotel even has views on to the train platform, making it totally unique and perfect for transport enthusiasts.

The Hansom bar is in the lobby, a place to admire the stunning Neo-Gothic architecture characteristic of the hotel, restored from the original design by Sir George Gilbert Scott.
Champagne is served in these metal goblets which somehow make having a glass of fizz even better! The perfect way to enjoy a glass of Perrier-Jouet!

Sandwiches come first in the true tradition of a tea and we enjoyed the following:

Egg and truffle mayonnaise with chives on spinach bread.
Roast Norfolk Turkey, wild cranberry & thyme compote with watercress on walnut bread.
Chapel & Swan smoked salmon, lemon crème fraiche and dill on dark bread.
Cucumber, Maldon salt butter & mint on lemon bread.
Crayfish, avocado, citrus mayonnaise & broadleaf cress on brioche.

Fluffy freshly baked scones came next served with clotted Cornish cream and strawberry preserves.

Pastries were as festive as can be and included:

Double chocolate Fondant Fancy parcel.
Vanilla and raspberry celebration wreath.
Strawberry and coconut bauble.
Dark chocolate and mandarin mousse Christmas tree.
White chocolate and cranberry opera cake.

There are lots of different teas that can be enjoyed with the food, there’s even a sparkling tea – something I’ve never seen before.

Special days like this always go so quickly and even more now I have Oscar to think about… and sadly it was time to say goodbye to my Spice Girls … but here’s to another decade of fun, friendship and lots more champagne, tea and cake to come!
