Handling Your Mail While You’re Away

Not knowing how to handle your mail while you’re away is an issue that many people face. No one likes getting back home after a nice vacation to find endless mails in their mailbox. There are many ways that will allow you to avoid this hassle and let you manage your mail wherever you are. The key here is to choose the one that suits you best. Here are ways you handle your mail anytime you’re away from home.

Virtual Mail

If you’ll be away for a long period of time, then registering for a virtual mail may be your ideal option. You can check all the mails you receive online through any device you register. By using Anytime Mailbox, you can open, scan, forward, and shred mails. This way, you can easily view and manage your mails from your mobile device or computer wherever you are. Some virtual mail services even have full office services, for example, dedicated phone numbers handled by the receptionist. So it is quite beneficial for people having online businesses.

Ask a Friend/Neighbor

If you’re going away for a short time, you can ask your friends or a family member to pick up the mail from your house and inform you if there are any important ones. Or, if you have a trusted neighbor, you can ask them to pick it up. However, this option may not be possible if you live far from your friends and family, or if you will be away for more than a week.

Forward to a Friend

If you don’t want to bother someone to pick up the mail for you while you’re away or you’ll be gone for a long time, you can forward the mail to a trusted person’s address. That way, no one needs to change their schedule to pass by your house and collect your mail, and you’ll be able to know about the mails and notices you received.

Hold Mails

If you’re not comfortable with sharing your private mails with another person but you don’t want them to pile up, you can use the hold service that most post offices provide. Holding mails will suspend mail delivery while you’re away. It will be kept safe in the post office, and no one will need to collect it from your mailbox. However, when the post office holds your mail, it’s only valid for one month. So if you’re away for more than one month, this service will not be helpful. You can activate this service by submitting a hold mail request from the post office station or online.

Choosing how to handle your mail depends on the type of mail you receive and how important they are. Letting someone you trust collect your mail or forwarding the mails to that person may cause discomfort to some people who prefer more privacy. If you just don’t want your mails to accumulate, then you can hold the mails. But if you receive important letters or notices that you need to check on a daily basis, then a virtual mail is the best option for you. Handling your mail while you’re away may seem like a long process, however, once you choose a method, the rest will be very easy.
