Europa Sailing School in Subic Open to International Students

A collaboration between Subic Sailing Club and Europa Yachts, the new Europa Sailing School in Subic Bay opened in December and is accepting local and international students. The school caters to newcomers to the sport, as well as those hoping to race competitively or considering sailing as a career.

Marcus Avecilla, Subic Sailing Club’s Managing Director and Head Instructor, is the Europa Sailing School’s Chief Instructor. Europa Yachts, a dealer for multiple European yacht brands, has provided the school with Beneteau First 14 dinghies, which can be sailed single or double-handed.

“We believe having quality hardware can help improve the quality of sailing education,” said Richard Sarinas, Europa’s Director of Marketing and Business Development.

The Europa Sailing School is offering four courses: a three-hour Intro Sail Course, two-day Start Sailing Course, four-day Competent Crew Course and six-day Day Skipper Course.

“We’re thrilled to accommodate enrollees from around the region,” Sarinas said. “Clark International Airport is an hour away from Subic and has regular flights to and from Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Jinjiang, Tokyo and Osaka.”

The Europa Sailing School was largely the brainchild of the Subic Sailing Club’s leaders. Founded in 2004, the club was originally composed
of sports enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and expats connected by sailing. Today, the club has become a non-profit organisation that continues to promote the Philippines as a premier sailing destination.

“Since its inception, the Subic Sailing Club has done much work in promoting sailing as a sport that anybody can participate in,” Sarinas said. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work together to make this dream happen.”
