I’ve hardly told this story to a soul, but I have the feeling I’m not the only woman out there who’s had this experience, so I thought I’d share it with you today. When I first found out I was having a boy, I was devastated. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. I cried for days. I’d always envisioned myself as the mother of daughters. In all my life, I never even entertained the possibility that I could have a son. My brain simply couldn’t seem to wrap itself around the news.
I mourned the daydreams of handing down special clothes to my future daughter. I mourned the mother daughter talks and showing her how to walk through the world as a strong feminist woman. I also particularly cherished the father daughter relationship and had really wanted my husband to experience that truly unique relationship as well. I mourned the loss of that opportunity for my husband too.
But of course that all changed once our son came on the scene. He’s now the light of my world, but I’ve particularly loved bearing witness to the father son relationship. Not having witnessed brothers growing up, I hadn’t really seen that bond before. It’s something beyond special.
But while I’ve been joyfully observing all these tender father son moments for four years now, I have done such a terrible job documenting them!
Thankfully, Artifact Uprising has allowed me to make up for four years of taking pics but never printing them, just in time for Father’s Day.
I partnered with Artifact Uprising to design a custom Everyday Photo book to chronicle the last four years of father son moments in one beautiful pager turner, creating a cloth covered heirloom that both my husband and son can enjoy flipping through for years to come.
It was so easy to upload pics to Artifact Uprising’s site. I may have had too much fun playing with different layout options, black & white vs color pictures and unique crops – I may have jumped from 30 to 50 pages because I just kept adding more and more!
It is so special to have documentation of both Carter’s growth over four years and the endless growth of the adoration for his father all in one special book. It will go right along with the teddy bear, army hat and baseball card collection that will be passed down from one generation to the next.
And I know I won’t wait four more years before I make my next photo book. And you don’t need to wait either! I’m thrilled to offer you 20% OFF the entire Artifact Uprising site with the code APT3420. This code is valid for one week from today so hop on those Father’s Day gifts right now (FYI there is only 1 use per person). You have until June 6 to ship with FedEx Economy, or June 10 with FedEx Rush.
These truly are the perfect way to show dads how much they mean to us.
This post is in partnership with Artifact Uprising. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. Thanks for supporting partnerships that keep Apt34’s doors open.
