As countries around the world kickstart their vaccination programmes, the dreams for travelling becomes more apparent. And when flights resume again, why not take the chance to visit Greece? The country has a plethora of islands that are scattered around the Agean and Ionian seas which provide an excellent opportunity to do some island hopping via the ferry services available. Apart from being the birthplace of Democracy, Philosophy and the Olympic Games, Greek mythology is also well-known throughout the globe. There are countless works of literature written with reference its fabled past and one such masterpiece is The Odyssey, an epic poem written by Homer which follows the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War.
In a tribute to the famous hero, Krak Architects has built a beautiful residence situated on the northeastern part of the island of Corfu — Casa Odyssia. Perched on a verdant landscape at an altitude of 250 metres, the house’s orientation overlooks the stunning Ionian Sea. The entire structure is built around a singular pillar that seems to birthed out of the ground. Composing solely concrete, the house’s material is a drastic contrast to the lush greeny of Cypress and Olive trees that are surrounding it. You may think that this gigantic structure is imposing and cold and we do not disagree but its interior speaks of another story — one that is filled with warmth and a perfect place to thoroughly enjoy a good rest.
The expansive opening throughout the building provides the ideal setting to enjoy the summer months frolicking around the pool that grants you an unobstructed view of the sea. The circular opening found in the main living area creates an intricate play of light and shadows depending on the movement of the sun, adding another layer of charm to the area. At night, set yourself around the opening to stargaze and immerse yourself in its splendour. Decked in contemporary and modern furnishings, the house is ready to welcome its new owners and while at present, it covers an area of 142 sqm, the house can be further expanded to include more living space.
