Another collected looking room in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House this year is Nick Olsen‘s “Salon du Beau Monde”on the top floor. It was also a chance for him to try out ideas that clients might not be receptive to like the wood veneer wallcovering by Maya Romanoff. The neutral walls create the perfect backdrop for the rest of the color and pattern through out the room.
I keep forgetting to mention that the house located at 125 East 65th Street was previously home to the China Institute of America. Because it was a commercial space, there are sprinkler pipes on the ceilings of many of the rooms. The designers could not remove them so they tried to work around them as best as possible. The house is also for sale for 26.8 Million so if you buy it, it will have to be gut renovated so the sprinklers can be recessed. But it’s a rare 35 feet wide so it might be worth it.
