Breitling Superocean 44 Special

The new Breitling Superocean 44 Special ($3,850) is everything the ocean-going professional could hope for in a diving watch.  At just a glance the two-tone white on black indices provide an exceptional contrast for the best possible legibility even at depth.

Inside the 44mm steel case, the watch has the in-house officially chronometer-certified self-winding Breitling 17 mechanical movement with a 40-hour power reserve.  The back is screwed in and the dial is surrounded by a unidirectional ceramic bezel.  The crystal covering the face is of cambered sapphire that has been glare-proofed on both sides for an extra measure of clarity.

Stylishly, the Superocean 44 Special’s steel case comes in two colorways of black or blue dial and bezel while the Blacksteel version is fashionably black all over.  To demonstrate how serious Breitling takes this dive watch; it is water resistant down to 3,300 feet which is three times deeper than the current world record scuba dive of “just” 1,090 feet.
