—The Art of Eating by M.F.K. Fisher
The 50th anniversary edition came out in 2004 and the stellar reviews remind us why M.F.K. Fisher’s book The Art of Eating is worth reading. With praises from Julia Child, Alice Waters and Ruth Reichl, Fisher’s collection of essays on dining, savoring and preparing food will allow you to escape into a food haven.

Speaking of Alice Waters, this past week she released a new memoir. In 1971, Waters opened what is continually given credit for starting a cultural revolution in food with her restaurant Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California. At the young age of 27, her little French restaurant began and is still operating today. With her much anticipated memoir, readers how have the opportunity to get to know the woman who used her food to awaken our tastebuds and awaken the political and social environment as well. I must say, I am quite curious to learn more about the woman who continually is referenced and revered by chefs and cooks I admire, namely Julia Child.

—Hampstead
Earlier this past summer, Hampstead, starring Diane Keaton and Brendan Gleeson premiered, and while Rotten Tomatoes isn’t too excited about it, I will definitely be taking a look at it when it comes to either theaters or Netflix. Keaton plays an American widow living in London and Gleeson, a man who lives on the land they both love. When property developers have new ideas for the gifts of mother nature they so enjoy, the two form an unlikely duo. Have a look at the trailer below and perhaps you too will be putting it on your watch list.
—Home Again
I have been anticipating Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s directoral debut since I saw her first pics on Instagram taken behind the scenes of Home Again. Starring Reece Witherspoon, her mother I have a feeling you already know and love: Nancy Meyers. The woman behind It’s Complicated, Something’s Got to Give, Baby Boom and so many more (Intern, The Holiday, etc.), lent her producing talents to her daughter and critics are quite hip on what they came up with.
Hitting theaters today, I do believe my weekend plans will include a viewing. Have a look at the trailer below and listen to Hallie and Nancy chat about making the film when they sat down for an interview on NPR with Scott Simon.

This afternoon the rain finally poured down. A sweet sight to the fire exhausted state of Oregon. Immediately opening the windows and not caring about splashes on my heels, I basked in the scent. A long-awaited shift from the high temperatures of summer and hopefully a much needed relief for the fire fighters and those worried about the paths of so many fires (26 at last count in Oregon alone).
Such simple gifts, the falling of rain, the quenching freshness of water from the sky are reminders that life’s sweetest moments are often unplanned and usually seemingly simply but oh so powerfully wonderful.
