A Landmark Hotel in the Heart of Bucharest: Athenee Palace Hilton

Earlier in the summer, I had the pleasure of traveling to Romania to #ExperienceBucharest. The city’s tourism board put on their largest promotional project that involved 100 travel bloggers and social media influencers from around the world coming to Bucharest to see the best of what the city has to offer. I quickly fell in love with Bucharest and after our long, fun-filled days, it was such a treat to come home to the stunning Athenee Palace Hilton Hotel each night.

Hilton Hotels are always consistent and reliable when it comes to impeccable service and comfortable surroundings. The Athenee Palace Hilton is certainly no exception! You will discover elegance and sophistication around every corner of its 272 luxurious rooms. However, my favorite aspect of this Hilton Hotel is the fascinating history behind it. It was designed by French architect Théophile Bradeau in the early 1900’s and opened its doors in 1914. The hotel has often attracted praise from historians and novelists, as it was the most cosmopolitan scene of Europe in the 1940’s. From royalty to presidents, Hollywood celebrities and World War figures, an incredible mix of people have passed through its doors throughout the years!

I had such a busy schedule while in Bucharest, which is why I was so happy to discover that Athénée Palace is in the heart of the city center. Within walking distance, you’ll find several shops, museums, entertainment venues, and business areas. However, you have everything you need and more to have a fabulous stay in the hotel. If you are looking to relax or stay fit, they are fully equipped with a Fitness Center Health Club, which comes with a pool, sauna, jacuzzi, as well as health and beauty treatments. For those visiting on business, you’ll find thirteen meeting rooms which can accommodate up to nine hundred people. For any type of traveler, you’ll be pleased to know there is complimentary wifi throughout the entire hotel.

I stayed in one of their forty-five beautiful junior suites. Mine was a King Junior Suite which came with a city view, king-sized Hilton Serenity bed (the best!), and a separate lounge area to work or relax in. I really enjoyed the extra space and access to the Executive Lounge. I especially liked that the room had a fully stock minibar, and coffee maker.  I also appreciated the very warm welcome by the Hilton staff. Upon entering my room, I noticed a welcome letter, along with delicious Romanian rum-flavored chocolates and some traditional brandy made of plums.

When you’re staying in a suite or executive room at Athenee Palace, you gain access to the Executive Lounge which comes with quite a few perks! I enjoyed complimentary breakfast there every morning, and there’s always a selection of refreshments throughout the day you can help yourself to. In the early evenings, they serve canapés for those wishing to unwind with a glass of wine and a bite to eat. It is also a nice space to work if you don’t wish to do so in your room.

The Athénée Palace has two restaurants on site, as well as a terrace bar and in-room dining. During my visit, I enjoyed an afternoon at Cafe Athenee which looks onto the bustling Revolutionary Square! The decor is a blend of traditional culture and contemporary design. They offer delicious French dishes with a modern twist as well. If you simply want to enjoy a nice glass of wine, this is the place to go! In addition to the lovely city views, the cafe transforms into a cozy lounge in the evenings with soft music and candles.

The English Bar is another place to enjoy cocktails, you can choose from over 40 whiskies, or order from the international snack menu.

Hilton has once again impressed me with another magnificent property. The grandeur and elegance you find throughout Bucharest is represented perfectly at the Athenee Palace Hotel. The historic charm of this hotel quickly won me over, but it is the comfortable interiors, modern amenities, and wonderful service that makes me want to return.

Note:  My entire stay was hosted by the Athenee Palace Hotel, but as always, the opinions here are my own.
