Gil Schafer’s Greenwich Village Pied-à-Terre Before and After

There is nothing I love more than a before and after, especially when it’s the home of someone with impeccable taste. Architectural Digest just published the recently redecorated Greenwich Village apartment of architect Gil Schafer online. He had the in-house interiors department give the pied-à-terre a slightly more contemporary feel which included lightening the walls of the living room. “I wanted it to feel different without completely recasting the space,” Schafer told AD. The antiques he’s collected pop more now against the lighter background. He also lightened things up in the bedroom but some other spaces like the dressing room, bathroom, and kitchen look unchanged. A testament that if you get the architecture right the first time, you don’t have to do it again. And that’s why you hire Gil Schafer.

I’ve included photos of how the apartment looked before and you can see more here. You can read the entire article and find credits for the refresh here.
