By nature, luxury watches are generally known to command a high price. If you want to purchase a brand new Rolex, Hublot, or Omega watch, you’ll have to splash out at least four figures.
With that said, certain watches go beyond even the norm for luxury watches. Using 2017 prices, here are ten luxury timepieces that are worth eye-watering money today.
1. Stainless Steel Ref. 130 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £3,627,959
With research carried out by Betway, the first of many Patek Philippe entries on this list is the Stainless Steel Ref. 130. Priced up at a little over three-and-a-half million, this watch is an exceptional, rare watch that dates back to 1943.
2. Bao Dai Ref. 6062 (Rolex)
Price: £3,965,574
This list wouldn’t be complete without a Rolex or three, and the “Bao Dai” is one of the coolest watches of all time. A gold strap, black lacquer dial, diamonds – the Vietnamese emperor, who the watch was designed for, clearly had taste in his wristwear.
3. Gold Chronograph Ref. 1527 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £4,513,985
An 18-carat gold buckle, diamonds, timeless style, and with only one ever been publicly available, the Ref. 1527 is understandably ranked alongside the most expensive Patek Philippe watches of all time.
4. Daytona Unicorn Ref. 6265 (Rolex)
Price: £4,513,985
Once deemed the ‘Holy Grail Rolex’, the Daytona Unicorn is one of the most unique pieces in the Swiss watchmakers’ storied history. The price is explained due to its white gold design and being a one-of-a-kind item.
5. Titanium Ref. 5208T-010 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £4,853,249
The standard Ref. 5208 by Patek Philippe shows off stunning style along with one of the most intricate self-winding mechanisms ever seen. The unique 5208T-010 sees the timepiece being produced in titanium.
6. Stainless Steel Ref. 5016A-010 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £5,550,381
With a blue enamel dial and stainless steel case, the beautiful, one-of-a-kind 5016A-010 was crafted by Patek Philippe for the Only Watch auction in 2015.
7. Gobbi Milan “Heures Universelles” Ref. 2523 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £6,849,669
Manufactured back in 1953, the Gobbi Milan boasts an 18-carat pink gold, two-crown world time design. Its style and inimitable style ensured it became one of the world’s most expensive watches.
8. Stainless Steel Ref. 1518 (Patek Philippe)
Price: £8,448,760
When it comes to the most striking and cool designs by Patek Philippe, few can come close to the Ref. 1518. This helps to explain why this historically important and extremely rare watch is worth so much today.
9. Paul Newman Daytona Ref. 6239 (Rolex)
Price: £13,497,691
The most expensive Rolex of all time, the Paul Newman Daytona was originally owned by, you guessed it, Paul Newman. It was described by Forbes as the “most mythical and legendary wristwatch in existence”.
10. Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A (Patek Philippe)
Price: £23,722,177
The most expensive watch, and by some distance, is the Grandmaster Chime. Seven years were invested by Patek Philippe to craft this unique piece, and their work was rewarded with an entry into the history books.
