For the 2021 Montblanc Writers Edition, the German Maison pays tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the renowned crime novelist and creator of the widely-loved detective, Sherlock Holmes.

The Writers Edition is Montblanc’s way of paying tribute to the creativity and cultural influences of movers and shakers within the literary realm. The Maison has been honouring great writers since 1992 and this year Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the latest addition to the long-awaited series.

The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle edition includes four variations, all of which are inspired by the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the remarkable life of its creator. Apart from using a pen in solving crimes, the magnifying glass is also a pertinent tool in aiding Holmes. Thus, Montblanc has shaped the clip of the pen to resemble a magnifying glass. The cap ring features Doyle’s signature engraved around it. A vine symbol representing the famed novelist’s first book, “A Study in Scarlet” can be seen as well.

Doyle began his writing career at the age of 27 but before the creation of the Sherlock Holmes series, he was a physician. Despite being a doctor, Doyle’s insatiable appetite for adventure and exploration brought him to far-flung places such as the Arctic and Africa. He even volunteered as a medical doctor during the Second Boer War, which earned him a knighthood from King Edward VII. With such a repertoire of experience, Doyle was able to incorporate them into his novels including Sherlock Holmes which in total has 60 stories.
