Over the last weekend in June (25 – 27), Western Australia celebrated its annual truffle festival called, “Truffle Kerfuffle”. Held in the heart of Australia’s truffle-growing region of Manjimup, visitors were invited to participate in a slew of activities that include truffle hunting, cooking masterclasses and food and wine tastings.

At the centre of the actions was the Festival Village, a family-friendly area where various activities were conducted. The rich surroundings allow visitors to fully immerse themselves within nature while sharing this experience with their loved ones.

The star of the annual event was truffle and so visitors got to try seeking out this earthly delight. Truffle dog demonstrations were undoubtedly the highlight of the festival. The area of Manjimup happens to be the most prolific growing ground in the Southern Hemisphere and its truffles are always sought-after by top chefs around the world.

As one of the prized ingredients in the culinary world, the event had invited several experts down to join the festivities. There was a masterclass session organised by Kirsty Marchant, the ex-head gardener at two-Michelin star restaurant Noma. Following the expert tips by Marchant, there was also a Truffle Farming Day, where visitors learned how to establish a truffle orchard.

New satellite events were added to this year’s “Truffle Kerfuffle”. Visitors enjoyed an intimate dining experience at the Fervor Lunch held at a secret Southern Forests location and headed by chef Paul Iskov. There was a whisky masterclass on internationally acclaimed Limeburners whisky and an educational session on gin distillation by Margaret River Distilling Company.

No one was excluded from the event. For example, children got to participate in the Kid’s Cooking Classes among other activities. The weekend-long winter escape was the perfect opportunity for truffle aficionados to huddle together over the firepit and enjoy the luxurious treat.
