On 14 March 2022, Salvatore Ferragamo unveiled its appointment of Maximilian Davis as the new creative director, effective this Wednesday.
The British designer and London College of Fashion graduate first founded his brand Maximilian in 2020, after working as a junior designer at Grace Wales Bonner. His design ethos derives from his Trinidadian-Jamaican origins, as a key part of his creative identity. During his label’s debut, Davis immediately attracted global recognition and continues to be a standout within the industry.

Davis was also shortlisted for this year’s LVMH Prize for Young Designers, as one of the 20 semifinalists. Among the long list of Davis’ supporters are Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, stylist Law Roach, Zendaya, Michaela Cole, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa and more. With impeccable storytelling and presentations, the 26-year-old creative is without a doubt amidst the pool of forward-thinking, top designers to watch.
On Ferragamo’s Instagram page and WWD, chief executive officer Marco Gobbetti shared his delightment in welcoming Davis. “The clarity of his vision together with the level of execution and his powerful aesthetic make him one of the most brilliant talents of his generation. His work is defined by elegance, refined sensuality, and constant commitment to quality. Through his lens of contemporary sensibility, he will write a new, exciting chapter for this house built on a heritage of creativity, craftsmanship, sophistication, and outstanding human values.”

Simultaneously, Davis expressed in a statement that he is deeply honoured and grateful for the opportunity to expand on the rich, profound heritage of Ferragamo. The fashion designer finds the house incredibly inspiring, with its dedication to timeless elegance and sophistication. “I’m looking forward to articulating my vision, elevated by the codes of Italian craftsmanship, quality and innovation,” Davis said.
According to WWD, Davis’ namesake label will be on hold as the new creative director fully commits to the house of Ferragamo.
Elsewhere in fashion, Dior reopens its iconic atelier at 30 Avenue Montaigne after two years. The Paris flagship now has a restaurant, an exhibition space, a high-end jewellery store and private overnight apartments.
