Tucked away in lush trees and woodland is the most expensive residential property for sale in rugged Scotland. Dalhebity House was built on a 10-acre property in Aberdeenshire that once belonged to Princess Diana’s grandmother. This sprawling mansion was listed for £7.5 million (US$9.4 million) on the market yesterday.

Located by Scotland’s Northeast coast, Aberdeenshire county is home to Balmoral Castle which the Royal Family visits for holidays. So there really is nowhere else that is more ideal than the Dalhebity House as your summer holiday home.

The main house has more than 30,000 square feet and is breathtaking both inside and out. It was built by owners Stewart Milne, chairman of Aberdeen Football Club, and his partner Joanna Robertson in 2009. The grand home reflects some of the original architecture and Scottish Baronial sources — featuring old-world design touches like turrets, Juliet balconies, French doors and a magnificent main entrance framed by high ceilings and a horseshoe staircase.

Once you open the doors of this Scottish mansion, you will be transported to a whole other era while feeling like a regal ruler. The residence offers four reception rooms and eight bedroom suites. Its ‘informal rooms’, stated on the listing, are a dining room with its own elaborate fireplace, a wood-panelled library with built-in shelves as well as an upstairs cocktail bar with its own kitchen facilities that opens into a reading room.

Additionally, the “spa complex” has an indoor pool area with a hot tub and a high, atrium-style glass ceiling. There is even a tiled steam room, a Swedish sauna, a massage and treatment room, a “relaxation room” and changing suites with showers and pool access.

Prior to this period-accurate and eco-friendly residence, the property then was the birthplace of Ruth Sylvia Gill, mother of Princess Diana’s mother Frances Shand Kydd, as per The Herald Scotland.

“The sheer scale and finish of this sumptuous house is hugely impressive and yet the clever design and layout mean the space does not overwhelm. I love the easy outdoor access to numerous terraces from the reception rooms. Internally, I adore the vastness of the reception hallway, but in equal measure love the more intimate ambience in the library,” property agent Fiona Gormley told Mansion Global.

“A modern-built house of this stature is utterly unique in Scotland and it’s an extraordinary achievement. A new owner can be confident of a private setting and yet first class airport and city accessibility too,” Gormley added.
