Stay and Play at Cowdray: A Luxurious British Country Estate

The magnificent Cowdray Estate dates back to the 16th century when it was originally one of England’s great Tudor houses. It is known to have been visited by both King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. You’ll find Cowdray House nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the English countryside. If you’ve always wanted to stay in a quintessentially English mansion, look no further than Cowdray House!

Cowdray Estate

This beautiful property is an exclusive venue for hire for almost any special occasion. Whether you’re traveling with a big group, or celebrating any milestone from weddings to birthdays and family reunions, Cowdray will be the perfect home away from home with 22 bedrooms and a private butler. On a smaller scale, the perfectly appointed cottages are available to rent as well.

The beautiful and unique North Wing consists of six bedrooms which can sleep up to 12 guests.  You’ll discover stunning views over the front gardens and surrounding grounds.  There are two large family bathrooms with complimentary luxury spa toiletries, an open-plan kitchen/living room set in the original House kitchen with vaulted ceilings and a feature wall painted by a local artist. There is also a dining room and a games room with table tennis.

In the main house, you’ll find fifteen en suite bedrooms, individually decorated to feel both cozy and elegant.  All Cowdray House bedrooms include super king or king sized beds, high speed Wi-Fi, television, telephone, luxury toiletries, Nespresso machines and kettles, Cowdray-embossed towels, robes and slippers.  The only downside is you won’t want to leave!

The property is set in beautiful gardens and woodland grounds and has a courtyard area overlooking the lake. On the Estate, there are adjoining wooded areas and fields for walking, as well as excellent access to public footpaths. There is ample parking.

If you’re fond of polo, Cowdray is the place for you. Here you’ll find the Cowdray Park Polo Club, the home of British polo. The season runs from April to September and anyone is welcome to watch polo at Cowdray throughout the season. You can either come as a spectator and buy tickets at the entrance gates, or sign up for a Non-Playing Social Membership. In the summer, Cowdray plays host to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup which is ranked alongside the Argentine and USA Open tournaments. The 2017 Gold Cup starts on June 27th and ends July 23rd; that means four weeks of showcasing the world’s finest players in up to 40 thrilling matches.

You certainly won’t run out of outdoor activities at Cowdray. Aside from polo, the estate also offers fly-fishing, golf, clay-pigeon shooting, and guided wildlife tours. Or if you’d prefer to do some relaxing indoors, you’ll discover a haven of tranquility right next to Cowdray Hall. Their beautifully appointed Therapy Rooms provide an accessible but private space for therapists, consultants, and their clients with Shiatsu, Osteopathy, Nutritional Therapy and more. Cowdray Hall is also available to hire for inspirational workshops, events, and weekly classes focusing on all area of self-development through yoga, pilates, mindfulness, meditation, chanting, and Tai Chi.

I recently got a little look into what life is like at Cowdray. Nic Roldan, Cowdray club member and one of the world’s leading polo players, hosted his 2nd Annual Sunset Polo & White Party at Palm Beach’s exclusive Wander’s Club. Cowdray set up a luxurious tent which gave us a taste of life on a storied country estate. In the early evening, we watched a fast-paced polo match played by some of the best polo players in the world. Afterwards, we enjoyed an evening of dining and dancing.

There was a silent auction going on throughout the night, helping to raise money for Brooke USA. This wonderful organization supports the world’s largest international animal welfare charity, and host Nic Roldan is one of their Ambassadors.
