Unofficially the fall season is upon us, and as I step into my closet I smile with appreciation a bit more readily. Why? Each year it seems I am culling my wardrobe more and more, and what remains are items I love to wear.
Last week I had the opportunity to share my Fall Capsule Wardrobe on the air in Portland on their morning talk show AM Northwest (view the segment here), and what you will see is that each item has been with me for at least a year and often three or four. Now, this doesn’t mean I won’t go shopping this fall season, but it does mean I will shop a lot less and be even more particular about what I bring into my closet. And to be sure, there are a handful of accessories, outerwear items and intimate pieces that I need to add.
What I have gathered for you today is what readers and subscribers to TSLL Seasonal Shopping Guide have come to expect every six months: a break down of the season’s trends dividing them into items worth splurging on as they will be in style for years to come and those to save your pennies as they will most likely only last for a season.
All of the items were chosen with the idea of being able to be paired with at least two or more items or styled two different ways (i.e. dresses).
A few other approaches to keep in mind: This midi silk dress from Alexis is stunning (and on sale), but to make it fit my style I would take it immediately to the tailor and eliminate the high slit. Having done this before to dresses with fabrics and patterns I loved, I highly recommend it. In other words, don’t let one tweakable detail scare you away from an item that you will wear multiple times.
As well, consider today’s shopping guide a boutique experience but also a window shopping experience. There are some stunning, but quite expensive items below; however, if you love one of them, save it via Shoptagr and wait until the fall/winter end-of-season sale in December. Granted, it may no longer be available, but if you can’t afford it at full price now, the option to give yourself a chance at having a very special piece in your closet is to make sure you don’t break your budget to do so (this silk blouse was purchased at a severely reduced price late last spring, all with the help of Shoptagr).
A few other ways to save some money before clicking “Purchase” is to use eBates, the Honey bookmarklet and Coupon Cabin. And remember, you can also return and shop this post throughout the season (view Spring 2017’s Shopping Guide here). As well, TSLL Shop for Capsule Wardrobe Essentials contains the timeless items that adhere to no other trend than “it works well all the time, period”, check out Spring, Fall or All-Season items.
Now I do believe it is time to shop and fine tune your capsule wardrobe even more to communicate to the world the confidence woman that you already are. Happy shopping!
