A bar with unlimited drinks and snacks, pillow menus, sheets with the finest of thread counts, a television in the bathroom, there are many amazing things that you can find in a hotel room and here are my top ten luxury in-room amenities.
1. Private Pool
Literally what can be better than arriving to a room in a hot country and you have your own private pool? Mr S and I have been lucky enough to have a few private pool villas but the best one of all time was at Four Seasons Chiang Mai.
Our villa had this incredible outdoor space with a full length swimming pool as well as gorgeous little plunge pools in a tropical forest setting. Surrounding our pool were sun loungers to recline on with a cocktail, a dining sala and our own swing chair for two!
Definitely the kind of hotel room that you don’t want to leave!
2. Monogramed Robes
Personalised detail is a very important aspect of luxury travel and when we arrived at the Gansevoort Hotel whilst on our honeymoon in New York, we were greeted with a very special surprise. The hotel had arranged monogrammed bathrooms with our initials, just perfect for two happy honeymooners….
Not only that, but our pillow cases were also embroidered with our initials so that we had a his and hers for either side. What a wonderful keepsake.
3. Homemade Cookies
It really is the little things that make you smile, a jar refilled with warm home made cookies every day would make anyone happy. And that’s exactly what we had at one of my luxury hotel favourites, Post Ranch Inn.
Each day Mr S would brew up a pot of coffee and we’d relax on our balcony with our steaming cup and a view of beautiful Big Sur.
4. A Mobile Phone to Your Butler
At super-luxury resort Jade Mountain in Lucia, we not only had an incredible private pool, all the food we could ever want bought to our room and the most breathtaking view…
But we also had a mobile phone so that we could contact our own butler at anytime! With super speedy service he bought MORE food and MORE drink should we ever need it plus tips on what to do and lifts to the beach. With training from the British Guild of Butlers, service is second to none but never stuffy or forced.
5. A Barman to Your Room
Fancy cocktails before dinner but don’t want to leave the comfort of your room? We loved the mobile cocktail bar at Soho Farmhouse in Oxford; a barman drives up to your chalet and will prepare the drink of your choice using fresh ingredients.
Actually at Soho Farmhouse there were so many lovely little touches in the room and I particularly loved the welcome amenity of fresh bread and a block of cheese that we found in the fridge.
6. A hot tub with a view
A hot tub is the perfect in-room amenity to relax in and drink a glass of bubbly as the sun goes down. Mr S and I have had some fab rooms with hot tubs but the best of all was at Four Seasons Golden Triangle.
The hot tub had a awesome position on the balcony of our treehouse in the middle of the Thai jungle. But not only that, as the Four Seasons Golden Triangle is adjacent to an elephant sanctuary, we could kick back and relax in the warm water whilst watching the elephants take their baths in the river below.
7. A Private Beach with a Hammock
A little stretch of beach all to ourselves was the amazing ‘in-room’ amenity at Amanpulo, a private island hotel in the The Philippines.
A private piece of sand and a hammock to swing in was the perfect way to enjoy the shade of the palm trees away from any other hotel guests. We even had an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand, as well as an urn to bathe our feet in.
8. A beautiful fireplace
Safari days can be blisteringly hot but often nights are cold which why we loved this huge stone fire place in our room in Singita Boulders.
Like the rest of the room, the natural fibres blended with traditional African art work, gave the room a luxury feel without detracting from the beauty of the of the outdoors.
9. A bed under the stars
At Singita Boulders sister property, Singita Lebombo, you can ask to have your balcony made up so that you can sleep under the stars. With so little pollution in the Kruger wilderness it was the perfect and most romantic way to enjoy the twinkling night sky!
10. Your Own Car
At qualia, an incredibly beautiful hotel on Hamilton Island in Australia, every single room is provided with a golf buggy to navigate the resort and the island.
As you can imagine, Mr S loved zooming around this tropical private island in his own car…popping into town to get an ice cream before heading up the hill for cocktail hour.
