If you are looking for a bit of luxury on your holiday to the Philippines, one of the top destinations has to be Mactan Island in Cebu. This island is home to some of the country’s best luxury resorts. Stay at some well recognised chains such as the Shangri-La, or if your holiday desires something more personalised why not try one of the boutique resorts. No matter your choice one thing that you’ll never forget is the amazing Filipino hospitality each of these places has to offer.
Cebu’s Best Tourist Spots
As I’ve shown in some of my other travel videos Cebu, is a fantastic tropical island getaway. Great for scuba diving or just discovering some of Asia’s hidden island gems. Gorgeous little paradises such as Virgin or Kalanggaman Islands are truly picture perfect postcard like places that can be easily reached from Cebu.
Virgin Island – An amazing tropical paradise in the north of Cebu.
As well as some of its other popular beach destinations such as Bantayan, Malapascua or Camotes Islands. Cebu is also a convenient connection to Bohol. A popular tourist spot in the Philippines. It offers the complete package with things to do and see. If you are looking for some upmarket accommodation, Bohol has this as well.
The Bellevue Resort – one of my favourite upmarket resorts in Bohol.
The Top 5 Resorts in Mactan
This is my favourite top luxury resorts in Mactan video guide (below).
Mactan Island is an international gateway to the Philippines and makes for a good alternative to Manila in the north of the country. The resorts are just a short ride away from the airport so it’s all fairly convenient.
Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island
This hotel (resort) used to be the Hilton but was bought over by the Mövenpick chain a number of years ago. They pumped heaps of cash into renovating the resort. In my opinion it looks so much better than it did before. The Ibiza Beach Club was the most impressive addition to the resort, adding some real class. It’s a fantastic way to eat or just chill out. Listen to live music and saviour the beach life.
All rooms come with a balcony, but if you’re looking for a room with a fantastic view, I’d recommend you booking one of the ocean view rooms (try to get one of the higher floors).
Abaca Boutique Resort
For unparalleled service, Abaca offers the best in boutique accommodation in Mactan. Rooms come with your own personalised butler, giving that extra personal touch. The resort’s suites and villas are huge, spacious and lavish. With some of their villas having a private plunge pool.
While no decent beach to speak of, it does have a beautiful infinity swimming pool that overlooks the ocean.
For some absolutely delicious cuisine and some of the finest dining on Mactan try its award winning restaurant. Pamper yourself in its spa with all natural facials and therapeutic massages.
If you have the cash, this is a great resort to consider.
Crimson Resort and Spa
A 6 hectare resort with over 250 guest rooms including its luxurious private villas with individual plunge pools – some having awesome views of the ocean. Its iconic 3 tier infinity pool is just a perfect place to cool off, laze or take selfies to the envy of your friends back home.
Dine in one of its fine dining restaurants or enjoy a huge buffets meals at its Saffron Café. It’s a fantastic place to spend your holiday while enjoying the luxuries in life.
Shangri-La Resort and Spa Cebu
One of the largest and well recognised resorts in Cebu. The Shangri-La is one of the most beautiful looking resorts. Starting from the best (man-made) beach on Mactan. It’s a fantastic place to soak up the tropical sun. There are a number of lovely swimming pools as well. Enjoy some of it aqua activities or if you have kids there are plenty of things for the little ones to do.
The rooms are beautiful to stay in, with the more expensive rooms offering some amazing views of the ocean.
One of the most impressive resorts not only in Cebu but also the Philippines.
Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu
JPark is another huge resort in Mactan Cebu. The word “fun” probably best describes this resort with its ultra-family friendly waterpark. Complete with waterslides, splash pools,“kiddy” pools or just swim in its main swimming pool. A resort perfect for kids of all ages. Which is probably why it is one of the most popular resorts on the island.
Jpark has nicely appointed rooms, while its villas are just amazing with either a private pool or jacuzzi.
As I’ve said in the video, if you are going to holiday in Cebu, I wouldn’t spend my whole time in Mactan. Cebu and its surrounding islands provide plenty of adventures for the holiday maker. To get the best out of your holiday check out some of the amazing things this part of the country has to offer.
So what is the best resort in Mactan? All these luxury resorts provide incredible places to stays at. I’ve enjoyed staying at all of them. So if you watch the video, at the end of the video I list my favourite. I think hands down it represents the best luxurious place to stay in Mactan, Cebu. For rates I have listed approximate prices on the video. When I book I generally use Agoda, AsiaTravel, HotelsCombined and occasionally direct with the resort. Some of them have “early bird” specials if you book ahead so many days you can get a good discount. Quite often they will have other types of promos during the year. So do your homework.
