Firstly, we should probably mention that this is basically a trick question, as all the resorts in the Maldives will provide you with same magical beaches, oceans and island views, not to mention the consistently phenomenal climate.
Anyone coming to the Maldives for the first time will definitely find it hard to leave. If you are planning a visit, you have made a fantastic choice! But how do you go about choosing the right Maldives luxury resort for yourself?
Eating
Are you a fan of eating at the same restaurant every day for all of your meals? Or do you prefer to eat from a buffet? Many resorts have a few different restaurants which offer different cuisines, and a choice of a buffet or à la carte. Others only offer buffets. Be sure you look before you book, and check the PDF menu’s online.
Island Size
You even have the choice of what size Island you desire! You can choose from islands that you can walk around in 10 minutes, or islands where you will need a bike to explore. Depending on your own preferences, it is entirely up to you. Some resorts span across multiple connected islands, and others are just really small. The smaller ones tend to be great for water sports though!
Facilities
Although it is a no-brainer, you will have to check with the resorts and make sure the location you desire has the correct facilities for you. For example, most resorts will offer scuba diving. But if you want two tank diving each morning, this is something you will have to check prior to booking your resort.
Ocean Reef
For snorkelers and scuba divers, an important factor is the quality of the house reef, the coral reef around the specific island itself, and the kind of access they can get to it. If you love the world under water, this is really something worth investigating. Construction on certain resorts have led to damage of the coral reef. This, of course, means fewer aquatic animals and fish to see, which can be particularly disappointing when snorkeling. Other reefs are truly spectacular, rich in a variety of animals and sublime corals. Access is also an important aspect for a snorkeler, and the best house reefs are simple to swim to from a jetty or a beach.
Land or Water Villas
The key points to consider here are whether you cope well in the heat and sun, or if you would rather step out directly into water or directly onto a beach. If you go for the water villa option, check out the aerial view to determine how private it is, and how the villas are set up in terms of spacing and how close they are to the land.
If you prefer to sit in the shade, a beach villa might be more suited to you. Some water villas can leave you exposed in the scorching heat. Beach villas are usually under the palm trees with more shade around the outside spaces, which make things a little more cooler.
