S+J House

At first glance, the S+J House outside the city of Pinamar in the Buenos Aires Province of Argentina appears to be a rather plain and simple structure.  Designed as a two-family house, it consists of two platform units connected by shallow stepped bridges.  It is constructed almost exclusively of exposed concrete defined by dark bronze anodized aluminum trim and a continuum stripe of concrete surrounding both platform parts to give a single volume look.

The ground it sets on is slightly sloped so that the rear end with the bedrooms appears to float above the ground.  The builders were charged with removing only enough of the lot’s pine trees to insert the house so it is blended with the surrounding pine forest.  The supporting columns are kept small so as to leave as tiny a footprint as possible and allow for a parking area below the promenade deck.  A golfer’s delight, the social area of the house overlooks a golf course situated on the next door plot.
