Bags of Style: The Best Luggage for Your Yacht Charter in 2017

When stepping onboard a luxury yacht for a charter, one of the most important accessories is a matching set of stylish, high-end holdalls. Louis Vuitton may be the jet-set’s enduring brand of choice when it comes to luggage, but there are many other worthy contenders. Each of our handpicked selections are sure to make a bold statement regarding your discerning travelling habits and will immediately set you apart from the crowd. Built with exceptional materials, care, and style, these luxury luggage brands carry the prestige of fine travel and are built to stand the test of time.

When selecting your luggage for your voyage, bear in mind that a luxury yacht charter is a different type of travel, with its own set of considerations: charter guests must bear in mind the vessel’s storage capacity, the numerous activity types, and the packed itinerary of varying destinations. As such, rather than a superbly stylish steamer trunk or hard case from a brand like Globetrotter, Victorinox or Rimowa, we recommend opting for a set of soft-sided bags.

Louis Vuitton

Luggage from Louis Vuitton needs no introduction to the world of yachting. Wildly popular with the superyacht set, the illustrious and historic brand has been crafting hand-made luxury travel cases since 1852, from the original rigid steamer trunks right through to the soft-sided Sirius, Carryall and Keepall Bandouliere holdalls. Also, in the Louis Vuitton range is a gorgeous dog-carrier. For those with a penchant for the exotic, we recommend a set of holdalls from the limited edition 2017 runway luggage collection, which was produced in collaboration with artists Jake and Dinos Chapman. Louis Vuitton cases capture the rich legacy of high-end travel and simply never go out of style. The Keepall 45 Bandoulière blends classic with innovative design to typify the rich legacy of high-end travel. The subtle addition to the brand’s famous pattern ensures that this bag will never go out of style.

Bottega Veneta

Flawlessly constructed and displaying a perfect harmony of functionality and Italian style, Bottega Veneta luggage makes a powerful statement. This deluxe Italian leather brand offers a range of handcrafted luggage for both men and women. Featuring their signature intrecciato VN leather weave and patchwork options, the Bottega Veneta luggage selection comprises a travel bag, trolley, shoe cases and garment bags. The chic bags are available in a range of beautiful colours, including black, deep blue, and wine-red Barolo. Bottega Veneta also crafts a range of striking multicoloured backpacks, which are ideal for going ashore from the yacht for a day trip. If space on the charter yacht permits, complement a trolley in Barolo intrecciato VN with a medium duffel bag of the same colour to create a winning combination.

Hartmann

Though Hartmann is now owned by luggage giant Samsonite, this high-end American luggage brand has a proud heritage that stretches back to 1877. Nevertheless, the brand has retained its reputation for exclusive style, with a range of beautiful luggage pieces that are considered to be modern classics. Designed with elegance in mind, the Hartmann range currently features a selection of soft-sided luggage options, including the refined Tweed Belting range, which benefits from an American walnut tweed fabric and American vegetable-tanned leather. For men, we recommend the Legacy duffel bag, which is crafted from the finest tweed and leather detailing.

Brunello Cucinelli

There’s a reason that James Bond carries a Brunello Cucinelli travel bag in the film Spectre; these Italian leather bags, designed in a hilltop castle in Italy, are both sophisticated and fashionable. The bag in mention is the Cowhide Boston Bag, yet the chocolate brown leather suitcase is equally as appealing, as is the woollen and cashmere felt suitcase with calf leather trim. For those looking for an image of casual luxury, Brunelli Cucinelli offers a trimmed navy denim and buffalo leather summer bag, while those who value the latest trends will want to purchase the Nuvolato Calfskin ‘Military’ Bag from the 2017 Spring/Summer collection.

Step Aboard in 2017

Unload your luggage aboard M/Y ULYSSES for a memorable charter in 2017. The 56.01m Benetti superyacht is available for charter through Fraser and accommodates up to 12 guests in six lavish staterooms. She complements a spectacularly luxurious interior with a range of indulgent superyacht amenities, including a gym, a Jacuzzi, sauna, elevator and a range of the latest water toys. The sun deck features a projector for al fresco movie nights under the stars. The luxury motor yacht is offered for charter at a heavily reduced rate until May 2017: charters for corporate charters and events are offered from EUR 255,000 (originally 280,000); all other charters are offered from EUR 200,000.

Get your superyacht charter off on the right foot with luxury luggage that is not only beautifully crafted, but also suits the yachting way of travelling.

March Musings: Monthly Round Up

The Ultimate Wine Tasting Experience in Sonoma: The Residence at Comstock Wines

My husband and I left San Francisco just after lunch driving north and forty fun minutes later, we pulled in to Comstock Wines in Dry Creek Valley. We weren’t just out for a wine tasting excursion, we took the ultimate step and decided on a romantic overnight getaway at the winery.

Comstock Wines has its own luxury residence situated on a seventeen acre estate vineyard. Its one of a number of laid-back wineries in Sonoma Country pouring impressive Pinots and sparkling wines situated around Healdsburg. Without the Napa crowds or San Francisco fog, it’s a prime place for a long weekend of wine tasting and relaxation.

We arrived in the afternoon and were stunned by the calm and beauty. The 360 view included grape vines and mountain pines, the landscape surrounding this stunning vacation rental reflects the quintessential spirit of California’s wine country.

Comstock Wines was inspired by the fundamental passion to grow and source only the best Sonoma County grapes, and transform them into wines that are as delicious as they are memorable. Bob and Sandy Comstock began growing grapes in Dry Creek Valley in 2002. Throughout the years, as they talked with family and friends, the idea of creating a small winery was born. With their daughter, Kelly Comstock Ferris, stepping in to the role of General Manager, Comstock Wines opened its doors in 2015. Featuring Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay, Comstock Wines strives to highlight the unique characteristics of each varietal. Veteran Winemaker Chris Russi uses his diverse understanding of the varying appellations of Sonoma County and their ideal varietals to create wines that speak to regional uniqueness. Their goal is to collectively share their enchantment of this stunning place they call home.  Their motto is simple: “We are All Comstock Wines.”

Comstock Wine - Sonoma Country - Image Carmen's Luxury TravelUpon entering the property, our first stop was The Winery to check-in at the reception desk in the Winery’s offices. The Winery is where the winery is housed, and also where the tasting bar is in the winery’s Tasting Room . We were given the keys to The Residence, a clicker for the gate, and were then escorted to the house.

It’s a short drive from The Winery to The Residence house.  From the outside, the rustic exteriors from a distance combined with a wrap-around porch belie the contemporary and fully decked out interiors.

The first thing that captured our attention as you walk in from the front door was the wall stocked with complimentary bottles of wines.

Behind the wall of bottles was the massive great room that features two-story high cathedral ceilings and overhead fans. The living area space was enormous with a modern and chic lodge look, lovely artworks being displayed throughout from local artists and a fireplace. From there, a long wooden formal dining table that seats ten.

The gourmet kitchen featured a long center island with gas hobs and a breakfast bar that could accommodate six people, as well as top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances. It was certainly a dream kitchen and ideal for entertaining.  If we had the family with us we would of arrange for a private chef to cook for us a Farm-to-Table meal. While we toured the house, we noticed Comstock Wines left us a bottle of wine to enjoy…and enjoy we did!

This non-smoking villa comes with four exquisite master suite bedrooms that can accommodate up to eight guests comfortably. Each master suite bedroom has a private entrance, television, ceilings fan, fireplace, desk and direct access to the terrace. One of the four master suites comes with two double beds.

Our room had everything one could possibly desire to make your stay feel like a home away from home.

Our en-suite bathroom had dual vanities, a spa bath, and a shower that took up the entire back wall of the bathroom.   One of my husband’s favorite features was the window in the shower looking onto the vineyard.

Just outside our master suite room where a pair of Adirondack chairs, where we sat and relaxed sipping our glass of wine. While enjoying the tranquility of the property.

The Exterior Front of The Residence at Comstock Wines

The Residence even had a media room upstairs,  perfect for a family movie night.  Directly outside the balcony in the media room, we had a perfect view of the estate and the winery.  I appreciated the fact that you could view the beautiful property from so many different areas inside The Residence.

After settling in at The Residence, we drove back to the winery building and went to the tasting bar where we not only tasted some of the wines, but heard all about the unique story behind the winery as well.  The winery is particularly noted for its Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The tasting bar is open daily from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Each Tasting Flight includes a selection of five current release wines for $15 per guest. The Zinfandel Flight is $24 per guest but complimentary with wine purchase.

It might go without saying, but wine tasting is complimentary for guests of The Residence at Comstock Wines. We took our wine glasses and sat outside on the terrace overlooking The Residence house in the distance and the Merlot Vineyards.  We were both a little hungry, so we paired our wines with a Charcuterie Plate.  The plate had an assortment of cheeses, meats, nuts, fruit, jam, and honey.  We really enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc, and the Pinot Noir, so much so that we purchased a few bottles to bring home.  They charge a flat fee of only $25 to ship the bottles for you.

Comstock’s property is absolutely stunning and there are tons of tables on the patio outside facing the vineyard. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely picnic or a Sunday brunch which they offer as well. There’s also have a bocce ball court and corn hole to entertain yourself while you enjoy your food and wine.

For dinner, we decided to venture into Healdsburg.  The Residence at Comstock Wines is located about five minutes from downtown Healdsburg where you’ll find some of the best restaurants in Sonoma County. It’s a small town that offers boutiques stores, art galleries and varieties of local organic produce.  While walking around the town, we stumbled upon a restaurant called Cafe Lucia which was well worth the detour from the square. It’s definitely Portuguese cuisine at its finest.

The next morning, we enjoyed our complimentary breakfast items that were left for us in our room’s mini refrigerator.  It was stocked with yogurts, milk, half and half, breakfast bread, granola, orange juice and fruit.

After breakfast, we had a chance to tour the winery with veteran winemaker Chris Russi.  Chris gave us a tour of the winery, shared its history, and spoke about winemaking techniques as we made our way to the crush pad, and the winemaking cellars. We were able to take a peek inside two containers of fermenting Cabernet and Merlot grapes. This was a very cool experience, as we had never seen grapes in this stage of winemaking before. Chris is very passionate about the wines at Comstock, and we appreciated that he took the time to show us around.

Comstock Winery - Image Carmen Edelson

If we had more time we would have liked the opportunity to try the one-of-a-kind tasting experience in the Blending Room. Where you join veteran winemaker, Chris Russi, or one of their Wine Educators and take your shot at becoming a winemaker for a day.  Assembling your own blend of wine which would have been a unique experience.

Comstock Wines Blending Room - Image Carmen Edelson

The Residence at Comstock Wines is centrally located and is the ideal getaway for a family vacation, girls weekend getaway or romantic escape.  There are plenty of activities to keep you busy on and off the property from hiking, biking and canoeing.  You can even go on a hot air balloon ride. Golf aficionados will also be happy to check out the course at nearby Tayman Park, the oldest in the area.

Disclosure and Facts: We were guest of Comstock Wine during this stay, and enjoyed every minute of it.  All opinions here are my own.  The Residence villa where we stayed can be rented for $2,400 – $2,800 /night. For more information visit The Residence at Comstock Wines for the ultimate luxury Wine Country vacation.

~Tartine All Day: Modern Recipes for the Home Cook by Elisabeth Pruiett

Being released on Tuesday April 4th, co-founder of San Francisco’s famed bakery and acclaimed food destination Tartine, the woman behind the pastries, Elisabeth Pruiett offers a home cook’s dream. Her new cookbook Tartine All Day is full of beautiful images and easy-to-follow recipes, bringing the flavor and not the fuss of classic dishes, many French as she and her husband spent much time in the land of gourmet and goodness, to your home. Having had the opportunity to flip through the cookbook, tune in to Monday’s upcoming episode of the podcast to learn of recipes that caught my eye (episode #149).

Eliza Bar Cart

Upon perusing through House Beautiful‘s recent issue, I came across a bar cart that was simple, and refined, but unique and sophisticated. For less than $300, make a statement, create a beautiful vignette in that small corner in your living room, and be a hostess always prepared for any entertaining opportunity. Check out how to style a bar cart here. Another Eliza bar cart that caught my eye but is only available for interior designers is this one, and it too is a beauty.

Today, I will recommend fervently Ines de la Fressange’s new book, and on Monday’s episode of the podcast (episode #149), I will break down and take you inside the book and all that it has to offer, so be sure to stay tuned. The lookbook is just that, a beautiful 130 page book of images styled for any occasion you might encounter throughout your life, and all possible while utilizing the essential items in your closet. Ines has another worthwhile resource on her hands.

Paris in Bloom by Giorgianna Lane

Spring always brings to mind Paris. The blossoms, the evanescent natural beauty, oh, someday I will be able to walk along the streets during this exquisite season. But until I am able, Seattle-based photographer and travel photog Giorgianna Lane has compiled a beautiful book of the abundance of flowers in Paris. As well, she offers recommendations about where to find the best flower markets and a detailed guide to spring blooms. Released earlier this month, Paris in Bloom would make a stunning coffee table book or gift for your fellow Francophile friend.

Shopping

Sézane Sunrise T-Shirt

I am on the lookout for simple statement t-shirts (tune in to Monday’s episode of the podcast to find out why), and that was when I came across Sézane’s sunrise tee. Simple, a bit retro and no brand logos or cheesy statements, just revealing a sunny disposition, I am contemplating adding this to my casual wardrobe (order one size larger as it runs small).

Theory Friends & Family Sale

Theory continues to be one of my staple item shopping destinations. I live in their Gabe wool stretch blazers, now through Sunday April 2nd, you can save 25% site wide with promo code FRIENDS. Another item that I had the opportunity to see in person this past week was the Whitney Hoop Bag in black (other colors available). Simple, well made (the leather is incredibly supple), it is quite streamlined and offers the functionality of a clutch or a cross body.

~recipe for Matcha Mint Grasshopper Pie~

One of daily routines I am throughly enjoying during my time here in South Korea is the eating. (Oh, my goodness I need to walk more!) And one of the items I have had many nibbles of are the dumplings. Dumplings are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in soups, separate, you name it, they are available and with a variety of fillings. Now, trying to communicate is not something I am doing well with (my attempt at charades does not help), but I feel fortunate to have been assisted by not only staff that does speak English but nearby customers who overhear the communication divide and either out of mere need to for the confusion to stop or congenial helpfulness step in to translate. Needless to say, the dumplings are being devoured and I am well-fed here in Korea. (My first bowl of bibimbap was also enjoyed yesterday – see here.)

How has the last week in March been going for you? Hopefully, the weather is just temperate enough, productivity was high and progress is being seen on whatever goal or project you are working on. Now, however, with the weekend’s arrival, why not schedule some time to unwind, explore, relax and rejuvenate. That is what we have planned, and I cannot wait to put the technology away, seek out the cherry blossoms and discover anything that crosses our path. Ah, and since it is the first of April tomorrow (no, this is not an April Fool’s joke), it means TSLL Spring Shopping Guide will be released. Be sure to check your inboxes or stop by the blog and shop to your heart’s content the trends were splurging on and those you may want to save but nonetheless have some fun with. So much more will be shared as well. Wishing you a lovely weekend and some articles you might enjoy! Until Monday, bonne journée!
