House Envy: A Piece of Scandinavian Heaven

If you’re looking for the perfect mix of Scandi-inspired restraint, timeless design and a touch of warmth look no further than this Copenhagen apartment. The pieces in each room are selected for both form and function. The neutral palette is set off by pops of blue and green that make the white, airy space come alive. Aka, you want to walk in and never leave.

apt34-copenhagengallery-1470940424-hbz-pernille-teisbaek-04gallery-1470940875-hbz-pernille-teisbaek-05

Case in point, the living room. It features a chic mix of timeless vintage like the Flag Halyard Chair and ubiquitous moroccan rugs. The room is punctuated by catching art, luxe textiles and just the right amount of found treasures that give the room personality without cluttering it. Hints of shine, from the cut glass Venetian mirror to the brass bar cart add just the right amount of glamour while a well-placed house plant grounds the space.

gallery-1470940824-hbz-pernille-teisbaek-16

This cozy corner is the perfect spot to relax with a magazine or a glass of wine. The leather daybed (my continued obsession – I want this one) and all the cozy pillows and thick cashmere throw give off a homey vibe.

gallery-1470940682-hbz-pernille-teisbaek-13

I love the bathrooms genius use of angled subway tile on the floor. It gives the small room a sense of movement. The dark grout pops, while the wood, woven accents and yet another plant give the space life.

In the bedroom linen bedding in shades of gray is topped with a plush cable knit that makes you want to crawl right into bed – and possibly never leave!

gallery-1470940632-hbz-pernille-teisbaek-10

This apartment is also proof that white walls are neither boring nor cold. Instead, they set a beautiful backdrop for your world to unfold. When you have white walls, every piece feels like it’s meant to be appreciated individually – from the art to the light fixtures, even a simple side table takes on an intentional feel. It’s the ultimate opportunity to curate. It’s certainly what I’m trying to accomplish in our new house. Nothing stays simply because it’s already here. Nothing comes in unless it serves a real purpose and I really love it.

Book At Room On Instagram With These Two Paris Hotels

Two luxury boutique hotels in Paris have launched a new service that allows travelers to book their hotel room by liking a photo on Instagram. Instead of having to conduct awkward online mobile searches with clumsy fingers, travellers can now book a room directly at either Le Metropolitan or Le Dokhan’s by double tapping on select Instagram photos.

The feature is powered by French platform Liketoknowit, which will then send users an email with direct links to book a room via the hotel website.

But it’s not just hotel brands that will be pushing out photos. In an added layer of social media savvy, five popular French “fashion influencers” have been enlisted to capture their stay at the hotels and post the photos to Instagram, a move that eliminates the need to search for a hotel homepage after admiring a favourite influencer’s vacation on social media, says Tribute Portfolio.

The Paris hotels are part of Starwood’s Tribute Portfolio, which groups independent boutique hotels.

Instant booking is available on photos tagged with @tributeportfolio,#independentmoments and a LIKEtoKNOW.it link.

Screen-Shot-2016-04-12-at-3.43.19-PM

Fashionista users know Liketoknowit as the platform that allows followers to shop for the same outfits as their favourite Instagrammer.

After liking a photo, the service sends an email with links for where to find the same items, adding another layer to the social media site’s selling power.

Meanwhile, Le Metropolitan is a 19th century Haussmann-style building that offers views of the Eiffel Tower, while Le Dokhan’s boasts bragging rights to opening the city’s first champagne bar, with 200 different varieties of bubbly.

Mark Zuckerberg To Demo Home AI

Mark Zuckerberg’s smart home system is based on voice and facial recognition.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg hopes to demonstrate the domestic artificial intelligence system installed in his home this September, inspired by Jarvis from Marvel’s Iron Man movies.

Zuckerberg gave the update on his home AI system, the creation of which was a personal goal for 2016, during a Facebook Townhall Q&A held in Rome and broadcast online.

Mark Zuckerberg To Demo Home AI

“It’s awesome because I get to interact with all these Facebook engineers who are doing all this awesome AI work in speech recognition, in face recognition… I programmed it so now, when I walk up to my gate, I don’t have to put in a code or something like that to get in, or put in a key,” Zuckerberg said. “It just sees my face and it lets me in. So that is pretty fun.”

The system can control gates, lights, and temperature, but so far has been calibrated for use solely by Zuckerberg himself. “It’s getting there,” he said.

Thus Facebook could soon introduce its own answer to smart home control systems proposed by other consumer-facing technology giants such as Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.

Trimmer Hill, History In Pacific Grove

While Victorian homes are relatively common (and highly desirable) in the Bay Area, few pack as much historic punch as Pacific Grove’s Trimmer Hill. The home’s Queen Anne exterior is embellished with the ornate architectural flourishes the style is known for including carved wood details and delicate stained glass.

imagereader-11.aspx

The six-bedroom home wears its National Register of Historic Places badge proudly. It was the original home of  Dr. Trimmer and also of Knut Hoveden whose Hoveden Cannery helped create the longest running sardine industry in Cannery Row (it was the last to close in the early 1970s).  This estate is the only privately owned residence in the Monterey Peninsula on National Register.

imagereader-24.aspx

With a home like this one has an obligation to preserve and restore it in alignment with the history and craftsmanship of the original design. After all, this home has had just eight owners since 1892.

imagereader-17.aspx

Some of the most classic styles prove their timeless worth and adaptability. Hardwood floors and carved wooden details are still prized by buyers today.  This home has a separate apartment and has multiple master suites. It has been updated with an integrated intercom, security system and high-end energy efficient appliances.

imagereader-21.aspx

The home also has a new redwood shingle roof, French garden landscaping and plans for an approved garage. The property is located within easy access of downtown Pacific Grove. imagereader-8.aspx

This property is listed for $2.575 million by Intero Real Estate and is showcased on Luxury Portfolio.

Maho Beach St. Martin – One of the World’s Most Dangerous Airports

DSC_4368 (1)

No vacation to St. Martin is complete without a trip to the famous Maho Beach!  Thrill seekers and aviation enthusiasts flock to the beach to sunbath in the shadow of a jumbo jet. The beach is fairly small, surrounded by coral, and located on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island, but is known for an unexpected attraction caused by all the low-flying airliners that zoom in so closely above the beach. People can actually be blown into the water by the strength of the jet blast.  If you’re interested in an adrenaline rush, you can join the dozens of others who cling to the fence and ride this gush of air for thrills…if not, this is a great opportunity to work on your photography. The myriad of jets and small planes will dazzle you.

Maho Beach Plane Landing in St. Martin

Maho Beach is located at the Western end of Runway 10 of Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM),  on the Dutch side of this Dutch-French island. When planes make their final approach, they do so right on top of sunbathers and snorkelers, thus providing you with a very special experience!  For those who love the thrill, or just like airplanes, watch and see incoming jets gliding in and landing just a few yards above your head!

Maho Beach Plane Landing in St. Martin

Maho Beach Helicopter Landing at the airport in St. Martin

Signs warning people to keep their distance are posted along the gate separating the thin, two-lane highway which divides the beach from the runway.  The massive jet engines can easily produce winds of more than 100 mph, blowing sand and people alike into the water. The jet blasts from the wake of the planes are so powerful that they can cause severe injury and possible death for those who do not exercise caution. That doesn’t stop everyone!

Not only is Princess Juliana International Airport in close proximity to the beach, but it also has an unusually short runway of only 7,150 feet (2180 meters). In order to complete a smooth landing, the aircraft gets as close to the beginning of the Runway 10 as possible – and ends up flying right over the heads of eager tourists, directing their cameras towards the impressive sight.

Maho Beach plane landing at Princess Juliana airport St. Martin

Plane spotting has become so popular that near the end of the runway, local residents and tourists contentedly plant themselves on bar stools at the Sunset Bar and Grill to sip cocktails and watch at a close-but-safe distance.  Each morning, they write the flight schedule on a surf board.

Flight Schedule at Sunset Bar and Grill in St. Martin

The best time of the day to see the planes is between 1:30pm – 5:00pm. The bigger planes 747’s and Airbus 340 usually glide in around 2:00 and leave around 4:00pm.

Only at Maho Beach can you experience the blast of a Boeing 747 passing close above your head. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Juliette Has A Gun’s Into The Void. To Infinity & Beyond

intothevoid

Juliette Has A Gun’s Romano Ricci isn’t averse to playing with ideas nor ingredients. With his latest limited edition release*, Ricci has played with the enigma of space and time, querying what it’s like to be ‘out there’ in deepest darkest space, toying with a trip into an all encompassing darkness, the lure of the black hole and of embracing the void.

Much like Timothy Leary and his forays with the mind and expanded consciousness (swayed by the use of LSD), Ricci uses perfume as his muse and microcosm. The Void, whether internal or external, should not be avoided (see…it’s even in the language), but to be experimented with. To draw us out of our comfort zone and expand our experience. While ‘the void’ may be feared, Ricci imagines the sweetest, soft, intense trip. A spray and sprinkling of velvety smooth, amber infused, golden droplets leads the way into Ricci’s imagined comforting blackness. Like a talented perfumer’s catalyst to induce a state of blackness and reflection, rather than a trippy Reichian orgone box.

Built around the mystery of black holes, Into the Void sucks you into its sweet, honeyed, trail, like a spray of golden hued light in deep velvety blackness.

A tiny spray catapults the wearer into a stratospheric sphere of indulgence. Engulfed in Into The Void’s cocktail of sexy, heady guiac wood, cedar, ambroxan, patchouli, sandalwood and papyrus. This is a big leap, that leaves a vapour trail like thick expensive incense, of black orchid absolute and a tonka bean & liquorice mix. The fragrance is so thick and rich that the wearer almost feels it as a presence. A comforting, guiding one that embraces the body.

Into The Void’s intensity, weaves and coils into the ether, its trail of other-worldy promise, hip-swaying its appeal.

Dark mysterious and supremely soft, Ricci’s latest addition to his luxury collection is a voyage of discovery that’s worth risking. Even with its £200 price tag (75ml).

*Available exclusively at Harrods from 4th September.
