Carpe diem!

Decide on Your Destination

Although not a vast country, there are many different areas of mainland Spain that you can visit, as well as eight main islands and several smaller ones.

Depending on what you want to get from your holiday in Spain, you should choose an appropriate destination accordingly.

  • The Canary Islands

Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are the most popular destinations in the Canaries. This is the ideal group of Spanish islands for those who are looking for greener surroundings than other coastal towns in Spain.

  • The Balearic Islands

Including Mallorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the Balearic islands are perfect for those who love a good beach, a scenic coastline and a rich and diverse countryside. Head to Mallorca or Ibiza for excitement and Minorca for a bit of r&r.

  • Costa Dorada

Situated on the coast of Catalonia, between Cunit and Alcanar on the Mediterranean Sea, Costa Dorada literally means golden coast and is inspired by its beautiful golden, sandy beaches. Ideal for families who are looking for a budget-friendly holiday in the sun.

  • Costa Del Sol

Extremely popular with families, Costa Del Sol offers luxury, excitement and at least 300 days of sunshine throughout the year.

  • Costa Brava

Perfect for either a two-week holiday or a short break, Costa Brava is the place to be if you love nature and adventure sports. Indulge in some snorkelling, diving off coasts or hiking along the GR 92 route. Whatever sporting activities you love, you will find something for you in Costa Brava.

Choose Your Accommodation

With a variety of hotels, resorts, apartments and camping facilities all over Spain, you have plenty of choice when it comes to your accommodation. That being said, there is one stand out accommodation option that families, couples and groups favour above all else, Villas in Spain.

The advantages of booking a villa for your Spanish holiday are endless:

  • You can have more privacy
  • You can have a more personalised holiday
  • You have more flexibility
  • It is more cost-effective than a hotel
  • You can have your creature comforts with you
  • You can work to your own schedule
  • You can relax more

If you are worried that a villa will be too secluded for you, you can find villas that are located within a lively resort so that you still have access to kids clubs, evening entertainment and other hotel-type facilities.

Decide When to Go

Luckily Spain is one of those countries that enjoys fairly nice weather all year round. That being said, the peak summer months can not only be expensive, but also extremely hot. Plus, the winter months can be a bit on the chilly side, but this can vary massively from year to year.

If you can, the best times to visit are in spring and autumn when the weather is sunny and warm, but not overwhelmingly so.

Establish a Budget

Depending on the type of accommodation you pick, for example, if you book a villa holiday you have the option to self-cater which can be very cost effective. It means you can travel to Spain on a wide variety of budgets.

Accommodation in general is not overly expensive, and neither are food and drink, especially if you choose to eat local produce and wines that originate from the area, rather than costly branded spirits and branded English foods.

Local transport is also very good and is fairly inexpensive, but it can be beneficial to hire a car if you want to explore an area in more detail.
