If there’s one thing you buy for your wardrobe this fall, make it a blazer. More specifically, a blazer that’s glen plaid, checked, flannel, houndstooth, or tweed. The are the perfect layering piece when the weather is starting to cool down but it’s yet cold enough for a coat. As you can see from some of the street style looks from New York and London fashion weeks, blazers can be worn with matching pants as a suit, with jeans, and even over a dress. The options are endless.

I saw a few editors and influencers wearing very oversized blazers during fashion week. What might work for them doesn’t always work for the rest of us. I’m obsessive about fit and always have the sleeves of my blazers hemmed to the proper length. I prefer mine shorter but they can fall anywhere from your wrist to the middle part of your hand between your wrist and thumb. I personally think they look too long in the photo above. If you don’t have a tailor, ask your drycleaner if they or someone they know can hem the sleeves for you. The right fit can make even an inexpensive jacket look like more expensive.
