Spa Break in the Lake District with Ferrari
Where? The Langdale Hotel and Spa, Lake District, UK
When? March 2018
Why? When my favourite guys down at Ferrari asked me if I wanted to borrow the 488 Spider for the weekend I was super excited. I needed to plan a UK road trip and one that involved some seriously fun driving. Where better than the Lake District in the North of England with its beautiful views, winding hilltop roads, great hikes and the luxury spa hotel The Langdale. They invited me to review the hotel a while back so my whole road trip fell into place perfectly.
Best time to go? Ideally the summer if you want the most temperate weather, but having said that it did snow while we were there in March which just made the views even more beautiful. The wintry weather made for beautiful snowy hikes and slightly slippy road conditions (which is actually quite fun in my books!) and the hotel was lovely and cosy to come home to.
The Langdale Hotel
Set in the heart of the stunning Lake District National Park, the Langdale Estate boasts spectacular grounds, built around the riverside and amidst epic mountain views all around. This wonderful chic hotel is one of the best in the North of England.
With a mixture of hotel rooms in the main house, private lodges, the new riverside rooms with balconies over the river and the beautiful Brimstones Hotel (it’s trendy sister property) all within the grounds, it has a lovely village vibe to it. It’s great just wandering around the grounds, let alone going fell walking and hiking!
The Rooms
We checked in to one of the cosy riverside rooms with four poster bed, natural bright interiors and The Balcony! (pictured below). Rooms come with all mod cons, wide screen TV, ensuite bathrooms and divine comfortable beds.
For a more stylish room try the newly designed interiors at The Brimstone Hotel which is owned by Langdale, they are very cool but get booked up months in advance.
Bonnie wears pom pom hat by Amelia Jane London, Silver quilted jacket by Lovers and Friends at Revolve, white jumper dress at Asos.
The Spa
Enjoy an afternoon swim at the large hotel swimming pool, have a workout at the gym and leisure centre. Or for an uber luxury spa experience check in to the Brimstones Spa, which is right next door at an extra charge of £45 to use all the pools, hot tubs and steam rooms. If you book in for a massage treatment you get entry to the spa area free of charge before or after the treatment. We both enjoyed a dreamy couples massage followed by some relaxing time in the water circuit. I highly recommend it.
Try out all the jets, jacuzzis and steam rooms at the spa. Pictured above are the foot spas, ice sink and the purple doorways lead to various sauna, steam and aromatherapy chambers. Below: me posing by the outdoor jacuzzi in the snow!
What to do in the day
After a hearty breakfast at the Stove Restaurant the Lakes are your oyster. Pick from a fantastic range of walks and hikes at all levels from easy to advanced! Take in the hill top views, waterfalls and spectacular rivers side walks all of which are breathtaking.
We drove the Ferrari (off road sometimes) and went off to find some walks of our own. I would recommend the Stickle Tarn hike if you want a bit of a challenge and enjoy a hill climb. But there are also several flat, easy strolls around the lakes too.
Driving the 488 Spider was pretty tricky at times especially with the snow and the icy windy roads. Next time we’ll visit in the summer, but I still had fun driving around the hills. It’s such a beautiful part of the country and great for a driving holiday.
We made it!! photo of Charlie and I at the top of the hill!
Eating and Drinking
You must check out the Stove restaurant at the hotel. Serving food all day it’s such a lovely, cosy yet chic restaurant. Picture Tom Dixon lighting, leather seating areas and large roaring fire places. And the food is exactly the delicious, hearty yet healthy fare you need after a long days hike! Yum!
Charlie and I enjoy a full English breakfast and below many of the meals are sharing plates like the whole fish below. I also recommend the sharing lamb dish which is so delicious and comes with red cabbage, dauphinoise potatoes and a red wine sauce. You really don’t need to order anything else though, it’s huge!!
Below Bonnie wears red jumper and silver coat by Revolve, white beanie by Amelia Jane London, white coat by Mooseknuckles and base layers by Sweaty Betty.
That’s all from the lake district and my Ferrari road trip! Join me next time for some Marbella action.
Huge thanks to the gorgeous Langdale Hotel and spa for looking after us so well and also to Ferrari for loaning us this beautiful 488 Spider, what an incredible car for our epic UK road trip adventure!
Bon voyage xx
