70s Chic at Celine

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

The minute I get myself all worked up for spring, I see the new Celine collection for fall 2019 and all I want is winter clothes. I was definitely not happy when LVMH decided to replace Phoebe Philo with Hedi Slimane and neither were a lot of people. I was scared to see what he would do for his first collection but I was pleasantly surprised by it today. Of course, that’s because I love a 70s aesthetic and especially a 70s French fashion aesthetic. Vogue called it a”1970s French bourgeois 7ème arrondissement look” which is pretty on target. I see a little bit of Anita Pallenberg, Catherine Deneuve, and Romy Schneider in César et Rosalie.

In my opinion, it’s a much more wearable collection that some of the very fashion forward pieces that Phoebe sent down the runway. I might not wear the culottes but I’m all for knee high stack heeled boots with midi skirts, bow tie blouses, lurex thread dresses, shearling, fur, and aviator sunglasses. It’s sexy preppie or what the French used to call bon chic bon genre. The funny thing is that I already own a lot of these types of pieces and now I know how to give them a new spin for the rest of this winter and the next. All I need is some of those Celine belts to pull them together.
