Nassau is one of the most popular islands to see while visiting the Caribbean. Nassau is English speaking, accepts USA currency, and is one of the most accessible islands in the entire Caribbean. Add on to that the activities you can get up to while visiting, and you have a perfect vacation destination.
Yes, Nassau has plenty to do, whether you want to party hard or you just want a relaxing break away from the real world. It also caters to everything in between. Here are our suggestions for 5 activities you must do while visiting Nassau, Bahamas.
Grab a Party Pass to Rose Island
Remember in the opening of this post I talked about some activities being for the party people? Well… this activity is for them. Grab a party pass to Rose Island and enjoy the day on your own private beach. Everything is taken care of. Just jump aboard the party pass boat at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal, enjoy the 15 to 20-minute boat ride to the private beach, and then just have fun! You have the full day to enjoy the beach and party with other like-minded people. There’s a fully stocked bar and a DJ playing your favorite beats.
Pirates of the Caribbean Museum
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Why not go and explore the history behind the title? No, Johnny Depp won’t be there, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find some great information about what actually happened through the golden age of piracy. And this isn’t one of those boring museums either. It’s highly interactive and young and old alike will have a wonderful time here. Jump aboard the pirate ship Revenge and sail into the past.
You can find the museum in the center of downtown Nassau.
Cable Beach
Cable beach is one of the best beaches on the island and is only a short ride from the cruise ships. Even though this is one of the most accessible beaches, it’s generally pretty quiet. This beach is great if you just want to get away from everyone and enjoy what the Caribbean is most famous for. It’s weather and beaches. Just grab a towel, lay back and soak in that Caribbean sun. Getting a little warm? Then get up and jump into that heavenly turquoise blue waters.
Take a Segway Tour
While we are big on walking when visiting a new destination, you might be limited on time. Taking a Segway tour can help you explore more of the island in a shorter time. It also helps to keep you a little cooler in the famous Caribbean heat.
After a short tutorial on how to use a Segway, you’ll be off exploring spectacular blue waters, beaches, and quaint eateries that Nassau has to offer. Your tour guide will fill you in on all the historical sites you pass, as well as general information on the island. And then to finish the day off you get to try out your new skills on the Segway by racing around an obstacle course!
Climb the Queen’s Staircase
Had enough of the beach? Then head to the Queen’s Staircase. This is one of the most visited sites in all of Nassau, and has quite the history. Originally built by slaves back in the 18th century, this structure is a structural marvel. It took 600 slaves over 16 years to build the 65 steps using nothing other than hand tools and a lot of muscle. The stairs were named many years later after Queen Victoria, who signed the declaration to abolish slavery.
While there, make sure you explore the area which is full of beautiful trees and delightful paths.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. While we have told you about 5 activities you must do while visiting Nassau, Bahamas, there are plenty more to do. Nassau is a really fun island to explore. So, next time you are planning a vacation, put it at the top of your list!
